(The James Brand)

The James Brand, known for its focus on modern, minimal everyday carry essentials, has announced the launch of its first-ever wallet, The Lowe. This new product marks the beginning of an entirely new category for the company, expanding its existing line of gear and accessories. The Lowe maintains the same design ethos and attention to detail that define The James Brand’s other offerings, presenting an ultra-minimal and refined solution to the essential need for carrying cards and cash.

“Wallets have been on our radar since the beginning,” said Ryan Coulter, Founder of The James Brand, in a statement announcing the product. “But we weren’t interested in making just another metal card holder—we wanted to build something better. If we were going to step into this space, we had to do it our way: modern, minimal, and made the right way.”

(The James Brand)

The design team was inspired by the simplicity of metal wallets but sought to overcome their common limitations. The result is a CNC-machined aluminum case that can securely hold up to six cards internally. The proprietary “Pinch-Tech” technology ensures the same solid tension regardless of whether the user carries one card or six, eliminating the need for adjustments or complex moving parts.

(The James Brand)

The wallet’s thoughtful micro-details are designed to elevate the user experience. A subtle internal ramp is hidden behind the rear wall, facilitating an intuitive, natural thumb motion to slide cards out. A durable, flush-mounted 70A durometer silicone band wraps around the case, providing flexible storage for a most-used card, cash, or receipts. The band’s dimensional form locks into a precise position, centering the brand’s signature mark.

(The James Brand)

Constructed from aerospace-grade 6063-T5 aluminum, the Lowe is naturally RFID-blocking and remarkably slim—thinner than a standard pack of gum—and designed specifically for comfortable front-pocket carry. Weighing 2.1 ounces, the wallet is a minimalist masterwork with no visible hardware or compromise in form. The Lowe has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $119 and is available at thejamesbrand.com, Amazon, and select retail partners.

Timex & The James Brand Debut ‘Emerald Edition’ GMT Watch https://www.maxim.com/style/timex-the-james-brand-debut-emerald-edition-gmt-watch/ Fri, 15 Nov 2024 11:29:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=245786 The details make the difference when it comes to everyday carry essentials, from a precise watch to a carefully crafted pocket knife. And the two have more in common than one might think, coming to a head in the new Timex x The James Brand Automatic GMT Emerald Edition.

(Timex)

Billed as the “next evolution of adventure” from the famed watchmaker and the iconic knife brand, the new Automatic GMT marks the second chapter in a partnership between two like-minded brands. As The James Brand notes, the duo “designed this watch from the ground up to be the ultimate daily solution for people who live to explore,” and it boasts plenty of helpful bells and whistles.

(Timex)

Its emerald green dial was inspired by the rich, lush vistas of Nova Scotia, The James Brand notes. In true outdoor-ready fashion, it comes complete with water resistance down to 200 meters and an automatic Miyota GMT movement, all the better for using the fourth hand for on-the-go global timekeeping.

(Timex)

Its hard-wearing 41mm titanium case rests on a 6al-4v titanium bracelet, while a date window and exhibition caseback further bolster the style points of this utilitarian everyday carry essential. A resin strap is also included with the rugged, ready-for-anything timepiece.

(Timex)

Timex and The James Brand assuredly went all out with the offering, at least as far as EDC must-haves are concerned. Starting November 29th, the handsome emerald GMT watch can be bought in a special bundle alongside a new Chapter 2 Titanium knife and The James Brand’s Burwell pen.

(Timex)

The James Brand notes that this particular watch is “designed to be on your wrist for a lifetime,” and that’s high praise for a watch that retails for just $749. With only 750 units available, the timepiece “was aimed to create a timepiece that reflects the spirit of adventure and exploration, while also offering a refined, versatile look,” said Timex Chief Creative Director Giorgio Galli. On the heels of a buzzed-about first edition, the second chapter looks just as bright for both Timex and The James Brand when it comes to your wrist game.

The James Brand’s Latest Luxe Blade Blends ‘Snakeskin Copper’ Carbon & Damascus Steel https://www.maxim.com/gear/the-james-brands-latest-luxe-blade-combines-snakeskin-copper-carbon-damascus-steel/ Thu, 12 Sep 2024 09:22:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=241525
(The James Brand)

The James Brand’s best pocket knife just got even better thanks to a little metallic magic. Shortly after the Portland, Oregon-based company’s flagship Barnes model debuted in 2021 as its first with an integrated frame-lock design, special editions featuring damascus steel blades entered the mix. Specifically, The James Brand began making its 3.5-inch drop-point blades from Damasteel, a trademarked damascus steel manufacturing process developed in Sweden that involves aerosolizing and bonding the metal without making welds.

(The James Brand)

Like a few before it, this latest Barnes variant also features a Damasteel DS93X Hakkapella blade attached to a titanium body that’s machined from a single billet of metal. What’s unique are the snakeskin copper carbon fiber inlays from Fatcarbon, a brand that specializes in crafting carbon fiber for knifemaking applications. Between the swirling Damasteel blade and the bespoke carbon inlays, no two examples of this limited-edition Barnes will be the same. Not that ubiquity was ever a concern, as production is capped at 20 units.

(The James Brand)

Presented in a wooden gift box with a branded challenge coin, cleaning cloth and lanyard, The James Brand Barnes Snakeskin Copper + Damasteel is available to purchase here for $1,449 while supplies last.

The James Brand’s Elite Damasteel Knife Returns https://www.maxim.com/gear/the-james-brand-unsheathes-sleek-new-carbon-fiber-knife/ Mon, 10 Jun 2024 10:29:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=234764 While the best pocket knives boast an air of utility, there’s a level of craft that takes everyday carry gear above and beyond — The James Brand harnesses that approach handsomely with a new limited-edition offering.

The James Brand Barnes Knife was designed with the ethos that “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication,” with a sleek profile and even more impressive fabrication.

(The James Brand)

At the heart of the Barnes Knife (previously released in limited-edition designs) is the use of carbon fiber and distinctive damasteel in the blade.

From blade to tip, The James Brand cut no corners (pun intended), including the use of Bohler M390 stainless steel in the blade, which the EDC company notes is arguably the best steel blade.

(The James Brand)

And befitting its rare materials and hard-working construction, it’s a top-shelf design throughout: Only 19 units are available, and at the hefty price tag of $1,349.

(The James Brand)

The titanium framelock knife is crafted using CNC machining from a solid billet of 6AL4V titanium, giving the integral design ” the ability to do things with the form that you cannot do in standard knife construction,” the knifemaker noted.

In short, fewer pieces than a standard knife creates a more seamless and durable operation.

(The James Brand)

Using one solid billet of titanium presented its own set of challenges, like “hollowing out a canoe from a singular log,” the company added.

Black woven carbon fiber adds strength and rugged toughness to the handle, with smooth action enhanced by sealed ceramic bearings at the main pivot.

(The James Brand)

A machined titanium pocket clip even ensures this knife won’t vanish when attached to canvas work pants or selvedge denim, for instance.

(The James Brand)

And true EDC lovers, potentially including very lucky dads receiving this knife on Father’s Day, have a little something extra to enjoy: The James Brand outfitted its new Barnes limited-edition knife kit with an accompanying coin, a first for the company.

Impressive knives like this don’t come around that often, and with only 19 units available, it’s a safe bet that the latest limited edition of The James Brand Barnes Knife will prove a trusty and covetable collector’s item for the EDC-obsessed.

The James Brand Sharpens Barnes LTD Knife With Snazzy Upcycled Inlays https://www.maxim.com/gear/the-james-brand-sharpens-barnes-ltd-knife-with-with-upcycled-inlays-for-limited-edition-release/ Mon, 29 Jan 2024 12:14:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=225430 The James Brand is collaborating with sustainable materials firm Smile Plastics for a special-edition version of The Barnes LTD knife that updates its Heron pattern with upcycled inlays sourced from discarded refrigerators, stoves, microwaves and countertops.

The latest Barnes LTD upgrades the classic pocket knife with a titanium frame lock construction machined from a solid billet of 6AL4V titanium and featuring a sharpened 3.5-inch Bohler M390 steel blade. The unique handle inlays feature feathery soft gray tones, yellow hues, warm ochre flecks, and black and blizzard white in striking patterns finished with a rich, polished semi-gloss.

With a limited release of just 24 units, the luxe new Barnes LTD ($749) is aimed squarely at collectors and enthusiasts, some of whom probably already own the rarefied Damasteel version of the popular EDC knife.

(The James Brand)

“The Barnes is our flagship knife. It’s well respected in the market, but we are always looking for ways to make it new and fresh,” James Brand founder Ryan Coulter tells Maxim.

“Using upcycled materials from Smile Plastic gives the Barnes a new look and a totally surprising choice for a knife handle. People expect us to push the boundaries from a material and color standpoint. When we discovered we could make the handle inlays from byproducts of post consumer light-hued appliances, we were intrigued.

“Sustainability is a part of our story, and it’s been pretty much overlooked by the knife industry so far, but it’s important for us to be as responsible as we can be in our business, especially in the outdoor market.”

(The James Brand)

The Barnes LTD: Heron + Stainless arrives in a lacquered wooden box with a TJB challenge coin, paracord lanyard, and cleaning cloth. Aside from its uniquely sustainable design elements, the knife is also being billed as “the finest and most technically advanced knife The James Brand has ever made.”

The exclusive U.S. release is only available at thejamesbrand.com, beginning January 30t at 9 a.m. PST.

Using the silhouette of the New Balance 237, Snyder’s latest take includes an oversized, chenille ‘N’, a satin-and-suede body, a tongue layered in ripstop nylon, and an interior lined in sweatshirt-inspired terry cloth. $130

WhistlePig 10-Year Rye Whiskey

WhistlePig

While the 10-year rye contained within is undoubtedly delightful, it’s the piggy bank-style presentation that’s the real winner here. It also marks a decade since WhistlePig’s famed rye (with a long and spicy finish) won its first major award. We’ll drink to that. $200

Randolph White Gold Aviator Sunglasses

(Randolph)

The relaxed fit allows for midweight layering, and it’s available in either otter green or dark tan. $495
