Luxury watchmaker H. Moser & Cie. officially unveiled the Streamliner Tourbillon Pierre Gasly at the Singapore Grand Prix, a timepiece designed in collaboration with the celebrated Formula 1 driver. The watch, a blend of high-end horology and contemporary sporting style, is described by the company as capturing the driver’s vision and aesthetic.

The project was “deeply personal” for Gasly, a French driver who competes in F1 for Alipine. He aided in the design from choosing textures and signing off on the watch’s refined appearance to positioning the tourbillon as its central mechanism.  “More than lending his name, he shaped every detail of this watch, meticulously selecting textures, defining its pared-back elegance, and ensuring the tourbillon would serve as its heart,” according to H. Moser. “The result is a timepiece that feels like an extension of Pierre himself: bold, refined, and unmistakably unique.”

Gasly went with a rich chocolate fumé dial, reflecting his preference for understated tones. This is contrasted with the strong, contemporary presence of the 5N red gold Streamliner case. On the bracelet version, a discreet ruby is set at the ten o’clock position on the bracelet, a subtle reference to Gasly’s racing number.

The Streamliner Tourbillon Pierre Gasly is available in two limited editions: A sport-chic edition on a chocolate rubber strap, limited to 100 pieces, is priced at $98,500. A collector’s edition on a red gold bracelet with the ruby detail, limited to 10 pieces, is priced at $148,500. The 10 future owners of the full gold version will receive a helmet replica and can participate in a yet-to-be-determined activity with Gasly in 2026.

These Formula 1 Racing Helmets Worn By Champs And Fan Favorites Are Headed To Auction https://www.maxim.com/sports/these-formula-1-racing-helmets-worn-by-champs-and-fan-favorites-are-headed-to-auction/ Wed, 09 Apr 2025 10:00:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=255862
(Bonhams)

In addition to a paddock brimming with rampant fans and A-listers, three days of non-stop festivities, and what’s sure to be a wild street-circuit race, Formula 1’s Miami Grand Prix weekend will also bring the opportunity to acquire covetable collectibls from some of the sport’s legends, via a Bonhams auction.

Pierre Gasly’s 2021 Alpha Tauri United States Grand Prix used helmet (Bonhams)

The headlining lots are definitely the collection of race-worn helmets from active drivers and motorsport legends. Current Alpine driver Pierre Gasly’s Bell shell from the 2021 United States Grand Prix comes from dependable French driver’s time at AlphaTauri, now Racing Bulls. Though Gasly ended up retiring early, this one is still expected to fetch anywhere from $15,000 to $25,000. A lid from McLaren driver Lando Norris, who happens to be on top of this season’s leaderboard after three races, was worn during Bahrain testing and early rounds of the 2023 season—expect it to sell for $20,000 to $30,000.

Charles Leclerc’s 2020 Scuderia Ferrari F1 Turkish Grand Prix used helmet (Bonhams)

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc’s 2020 Turkish Grand Prix helmet by Bell, valued at between $25,000 and $35,000, is also up for grabs, and unlike Gasly and Norris’s helmets, Leclerc’s saw some notable competitive action. While the Monégasque started from fourteenth after a wet qualifying session, he was able to force his way up the grid all the way to second, but after last-lap elbowing from competitors, Leclerc ultimately finished fourth.

Michael Schumacher’s 1991 used helmet, by Shoei (Bonhams)

The most prized lid, though, didn’t even race in F1, but it was donned by arguably the sport’s most legendary figure. Michael Schumacher’s 1991 Shoei hlemet, believed to have been used during the seven-time F1 champ’s early racing-kart career and possibly for Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM), is being offered with the original karting visor, chips and marks. Its pre-auction valuation is listed at $30,000 to $50,000, but given that another ex-Schumacher helmet ignited a bidding war and sold for over four times more than expected at the same exact Bonhams auction last year, don’t be surprised to see the hammer fall well into six figures.

Lewis Hamilton’s 2023 Mercedes AMG F1-used overalls (Bonhams)

In addition to helmets, several race suits sported by former champs Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost and Lewis Hamilton are set to cross the block at The Miami Auction, which is open exclusively to race ticket holders. Bidding begins on May 3—the Grand Prix’s eve—at the Miami International Autodrome.

H. Moser Goes Full-Throttle With Pink Formula 1 Skeleton Watch https://www.maxim.com/style/h-moser-goes-full-throttle-with-pink-formula-1-skeleton-watch/ Mon, 06 May 2024 13:34:40 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=232814

Swiss watchmaker H. Moser & Cie. is revving up its sporty Streamliner collection with a limited-edition pink skeleton timepiece unveiled during Formula 1’s Miami Grand Prix weekend.

The H. Moser Streamliner Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Alpine Limited Edition Pink Livery is a striking ode to the avant-garde brand’s horological partnership with the BWT Alpine F1 team. The skeletonized stunner’s vibrant pink hue nods to Alpine’s racing colors while also capturing the candy-coated energy of Miami, where pink can adorn everything from Art Deco hotels to the exotic sports cars that rumble down Ocean Drive.

H. Moser Streamliners draw design inspiration from the sleek curvature of 1930s-era trains, but the line’s latest timepiece is a thoroughly modern marvel. The 42.3 mm collectible’s main dial pops at 12 o’clock with a smaller domed dial made from pink synthetic corundum that mirrors the pink rubber strap and appears to float under the watch crystal.

The HMC 811 automatic movement is built in-house from 171 pieces and fully-skeletonized on the front and back, where wearers can admire its oscillating gold rotor through a transparent caseback. It also has a one-minute flying tourbillon with a blue cage bridge and a cylindrical balance spring spinning at 6 o’clock.

Each of those balance springs are painstakingly hand-shaped by specialists at H. Moser’s sister company, Precision Engineering AG. They take about ten times longer to make than traditional balance springs—a detail that speaks to H. Moser’s mission of imbuing ultra-modern timepieces with rigorous craftsmanship.

The Schaffhausen, Switzerland-based independent watch brand is known for blending cutting-edge designs—one previous Streamliner was wrapped in Vantablack material, another had a camo pattern dial—with technical expertise befitting a company that can trace its origins back to 1828.

The latest limited edition Streamliner is water-resistant to 120 meters and features Super-Luminova indices and Globolight inserts above the blue hour and minute hands for maximum visibility in the dark.

It’s H. Moser’s second Alpine collaboration, dropping a few weeks after a blue version was revealed at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai. Only 100 blue watches were produced. The pink models are even more exclusive, with just 20 available.

Edouard Meylan, CEO and owner of H. Moser, said in an interview during the Miami Grand Prix weekend that both Alpine models were designed as part of a five-year partnership with the F1 team, which tapped French driver Pierre Gasly as the watchmaker’s first-ever ambassador.

Meylan said Alpine reached out to collaborate after Luca de Meo—the CEO of Alpine’s parent company Renault—became a collector of H. Moser watches. He added that the Alpine editions were designed to be high-octane twists on the brand’s existing Streamliners.

“It’s very skeletonized and very three dimensional,” Meylan said of the pink Alpine. “It’s a tall skeleton. It’s also bolder than what we do in terms of colors, with the rubber strap and the dial. Of course, our customers still have the opportunity to put the watch on a bracelet, but we wanted something a little bit bolder and more unique for this special edition.”

Both limited-edition Alpine watches are available at H. Moser’s online store—the pink version is priced at $98,000 and the blue is $89,000. They’re just the latest F1-themed watch releases that are driving interest among collectors.

TAG Heuer’s recent collaboration with New York fashion brand Kith revives TAG’s original Formula 1 Series 1 watch and IWC enlisted racing superstar Lewis Hamilton for a signature edition of the Portugieser Tourbillon Rétrograde Chronograph. Hamilton’s fellow British driver, Lando Norris of McLaren Racing, won his first Grand Prix in Miami with an upset victory over Max Verstappen.
