Luxury watchmaker H. Moser & Cie. officially unveiled the Streamliner Tourbillon Pierre Gasly at the Singapore Grand Prix, a timepiece designed in collaboration with the celebrated Formula 1 driver. The watch, a blend of high-end horology and contemporary sporting style, is described by the company as capturing the driver’s vision and aesthetic.

The project was “deeply personal” for Gasly, a French driver who competes in F1 for Alipine. He aided in the design from choosing textures and signing off on the watch’s refined appearance to positioning the tourbillon as its central mechanism.  “More than lending his name, he shaped every detail of this watch, meticulously selecting textures, defining its pared-back elegance, and ensuring the tourbillon would serve as its heart,” according to H. Moser. “The result is a timepiece that feels like an extension of Pierre himself: bold, refined, and unmistakably unique.”

(H. Moser)

Gasly went with a rich chocolate fumé dial, reflecting his preference for understated tones. This is contrasted with the strong, contemporary presence of the 5N red gold Streamliner case. On the bracelet version, a discreet ruby is set at the ten o’clock position on the bracelet, a subtle reference to Gasly’s racing number.

(H. Moser)

The Streamliner Tourbillon Pierre Gasly is available in two limited editions: A sport-chic edition on a chocolate rubber strap, limited to 100 pieces, is priced at $98,500. A collector’s edition on a red gold bracelet with the ruby detail, limited to 10 pieces, is priced at $148,500. The 10 future owners of the full gold version will receive a helmet replica and can participate in a yet-to-be-determined activity with Gasly in 2026.

‘F1’ Races Back Into Imax Theaters After Becoming Biggest Movie Of Brad Pitt’s Career https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/f1-races-back-into-imax-theaters-after-becoming-biggest-movie-of-brad-pitts-career/ Thu, 07 Aug 2025 15:28:59 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=268036
(Warner Bros.)

F1: The Movie is roaring back into Imax theaters after becoming the top-grossing film of Brad Pitt’s career. Apple’s Formula 1 racing epic returns to Imax on Friday, Aug. 8, with plans to further expand showtimes on Friday, Aug. 15.

F1 recently passed $552 million at the global box office, making it the highest-grossing original feature of the year and Apple’s biggest film ever. Variety points out that the racing flick lapped Pitt’s previous biggest movie, his 2013 zombie flick World War Z, which raked in $540 million at the box office. Distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, F1 has made $85 million and counting from Imax theaters alone, which is the highest of any film this year.

“Audiences around the world have embraced ‘F1 The Movie’ as an adrenaline-pumping, big screen experience, and its re-release in Imax is a testament to the global popularity of the film,” said Matt Dentler, head of features at Apple Original Films, in a statement. “Joe, Jerry, Brad, Lewis and the visionary team behind ‘F1 The Movie’ have delivered a summer blockbuster that blends heart with action, and we can’t wait to give moviegoers another chance to see it in Imax.”

Pitt stars in F1 as aging race car driver Sonny Hayes, who returns to the track after an injury derailed his career in the ’90s. Now, he’s a driver-for-hire who helps a struggling Formula 1 team return to prominence. He stars alongside Damson Idris, Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies and more. Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski helmed the film and produced with Jerry Bruckheimer, seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton, as well as Pitt and others.

Added Imax CEO Rich Gelfond, “Every element of ‘F1 The Movie’—the visuals, the sound, the gripping storytelling anchored by larger-than-life performances—makes excellent use of the IMAX Experience, and it’s no wonder it’s our highest grossing Hollywood film of the year. We know ‘F1 The Movie’ still has plenty of gas in the tank and audiences will come back again to experience it as intended in Imax.”

Get revved up for F1’s big-screen return with the official trailer below.

Tom Brady and Rafa Nadal Are Battling For The Formula E Championship Of The High Seas https://www.maxim.com/sports/tom-brady-and-rafa-nadal-are-battling-for-the-formula-e-championship-of-the-high-seas/ Fri, 01 Aug 2025 10:00:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=266396

After a thrilling race in Monaco in July for the 5th grand prix of the 2025 E1 Series World Championship, the electric speedboat equivalent of Formula 1, legendary quarterback Tom Brady’s team is ahead on points to lead rivals including Rafa Nadal (#2), DJ Steve Aoki (#3), Will Smith / Westbrook Racing (#5) and LeBron James / Team Alula (#6). The margins are slim however, so the teams backed by Brady and his fellow celebs will have to be in top form for the final two races in Lagos (October) and Miami (November), where the final winner will be decided.

On the heels of Formula E, which has had great success positioning itself as a sustainable alternative to Formula 1, the E1 series, sponsored by Bombay Sapphire gin, staged its first race in in 2024. Brady was one of the first to sign on for team ownership, declaring, “I’m passionate about both the ocean and sustainability. The E1 series is a great opportunity to be involved in a sport that is at the forefront of innovation and action for a sustainable future.”

Aside from Brady and Bombay Sapphire, known for its distinctive blue bottle and its unique vapor-infusion process featuring a blend of handpicked botanicals, E1 has forged a strong connection to Monaco with the backing of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, who is equally passionate about oceanographic causes. The E1 “racebird” boats as they’re called are single-seater, all-electric hydrofoils with a top speed of 50 knots, designed for zero emissions and minimal impact on marine ecosystems.

E1’s Monaco race was staged in partnership with the famed Yacht Club de Monaco, where E1 pilots do much of their training. The E1 series is backed by Saudi Arabia’s PIF and overseen by Monaco-based UIM, Union Internationale Motonautique, the international governing body of powerboating. The Prince, Brady, Nadal, LeBron, and team owner Marc Anthony were all in attendance at the glamorous event.

At the Lord Norman Foster-designed Yacht Club de Monaco’s swimming pool overlooking Port Hercule, Bombay Sapphire created an E1-on-the-Riviera themed bar for VIPs, serving up signature cocktails such as the Bombay Sapphire Sparkling Lemon, the official cocktail of E1, made with Bombay Sapphire, fresh lemonade, and club soda. Team Brady pilot Sam Coleman—each time has one male and one female pilot—even tried his hand at making the signature drink.

“Bombay Sapphire partnered with E1 because of our shared values of sustainability, lifestyle, and the joy of bringing something unique to consumers in the most iconic waterside cities in the world,” Bombay Sapphire Brand Director Jaime Keller tells Maxim.

“When it comes to sustainability, E1’s focus on electric racing and their blue impact marine regeneration”—a framework of initiatives to promote the restoration and regeneration of marine ecosystems worldwide— “speaks to our long-term values of sustainability, such as the sustainable sourcing of our botanicals from around the world.”

“Witnessing E1’s race in Monaco was incredible. Watching the boats zip across the Mediterranean from the Ocean Club, where spectators gathered along the shoreline, captured exactly the kind of moment we aim to create for sports enthusiasts and cocktail aficionados alike with this partnership.  With its storied racing history dating back to 1929 with the Monaco Grand Prix, the glamour of Monaco only added to the energy of the tournament. After watching the race live in Monaco, I’m excited for the race to come to the U.S. for the first time this fall.”

LeBron James and Team Alula / Courtesy E1

The race day was preceded by dramatic qualifying sessions on Friday, during which Nadal’s Team Rafa was involved in a high-speed crash that caused significant damage to their E1 RaceBird and led to a red flag and early end to qualifying; no one was injured. Team Blue Rising won the actual race but lags behind Brady, Nadal and Aoki in overall season standings, though it is ahead of LeBron’s Team Alula.

Courtesy Team Miami / E1

“The race here in Monaco was one of the most spectacular E1 has ever seen,” commented Rodi Basso, E1 founder and CEO. “It reflected the rich motorsport heritage of this country, with suspense and danger at every turn. Together with our team owners and the Yacht Club de Monaco, we are building a legacy here — redefining water racing and setting a new precedent in sport.”

Why McLaren Supercars Get Better With Every Formula 1 Win https://www.maxim.com/rides/why-mclarens-supercars-get-better-with-every-formula-1-win/ Fri, 11 Jul 2025 10:16:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=265223
Courtesy McLaren

McLaren is having its best Formula 1 season in nearly 20 years, and looks like a good bet to win both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships this year, an impressive feat to say the least. McLaren’s star drivers Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris have been burning up the F1 circuits, racking up 10 podiums each in the first 12 races of the season, with five wins for Piastri and four for Norris, including the Monaco Grand Prix. Beyond the mere entertainment factor, and even the boost to the brand’s stature and reputation however, there is a very real benefit to winning that translates to better road-going supercars from McLaren Automotive—and that’s more apparent than ever with the new McLaren Artura Spider.

Courtesy McLaren

The $280,000 super convertible is a revolutionary open-topped version of the glorious coupé that made headlines when it debuted in 2022 as the marque’s first-ever High-Performance Hybrid (HPH) Supercar. Perhaps more than any other manufacturer, McLaren leverages its F1 mastery in myriad ways to benefit its road car division, and never compromises when it comes to making drop-dead gorgeous rolling sculptures of speed.

Courtesy McLaren

McLaren has been winning Formula 1 races since the 1960s, and application of decades of accumulated expertise literally blew the automotive world away when they debuted their first-ever road car, the aptly-named McLaren F1, in 1992. This also paved the way for the birth of McLaren Automotive nearly 20 years later, which was an immediate and smashing success.

McLaren F1
Courtesy McLaren

Widely considered to be the world’s first hypercar, and still renowned for its groundbreaking engineering over 30 years later, F1’s now fetch around $20 million at auction. And since then every McLaren road car—current regular production began with the MP4-12C in 2011—has had a direct line to F1 coursing through its valves. And new ownership and leadership is ensuring the brand continues to thrive in all realms.

Courtesy McLaren

“McLaren holds a unique position in that we are a racing company that also makes road cars, and not the other way around,” Roger Ormisher, the marque’s Vice President of Brand and Communications, tells us. “The brand’s storied racing heritage features an enormous amount of triumph, including winning our 9th Constructor’s Championship in the 2024 season, and a hugely successful 2025 season to-date. But we’re not only winning on the track—the McLaren Artura has won a variety of accolades over the past year, and owners get the benefit of having F1-derived technology in their road-going cars.”

Courtesy McLaren

Key points of this exchange include a carbon fibre monocoque, carbon brakes, and caliper-mounted brake cooling ducts. “Combined with a 3.0-liter V6 engine with 680 hp (690 bhp) and the thrill of open-air motoring that the Artura Spider provides,” Ormisher remarks, “it’s never been easier to emulate your favorite F1 driver.” And do it in impeccable style.

Courtesy McLaren

Then there is the HOTAS (Hands On Throttle-And-Stick) system. “Although the name directly references aircraft control systems, Artura Spider features a HOTAS-inspired driver-zone binnacle with fingertip selectors for handling and powertrain modes, which also thematically reflects the cockpit ergonomics of F1 cars,” the brand notes.

Courtesy McLaren

McLaren states that the Artura Spider represents a dramatic increase in power, performance, “emotionality” and driver engagement over the original Artura, something that we were able to put to the test at the model’s global launch in Monaco. Setting out from McLaren’s temporary HQ at the ultra-posh Maybourne Riviera hotel, we felt that the car could not have been more in its element. Open-topped motoring in a supercar in Monaco is something that every true enthusiast should aspire to. Make it a McLaren and you’re in for a experience you’ll never forget.

Courtesy McLaren

The Artura Spider’s hybrid powertrain is ideally suited for the type of driving we did on the glorious slice of the South of France. Lower speed, nearly silent cruising in EV mode  was perfect for the famously labyrinth streets of the principality itself. And when we got up into the hills above it was time for a fiercer approach, accomplished with a flick of an F1-style switch. Then it was time to experience the sheer thrill of hitting 0-60 in 3 seconds; we would have needed a racetrack to rocket to the top speed of 205 mph, but McLaren doesn’t make cars that go slower than that, as we’ve had pleasure to confirm in the past.

Courtesy McLaren

As with all McLarens, the marque’s MSO branch, for McLaren Special Operations, can make any client’s car into a one-of-a-kind, 007-worthy creation. From its beginnings adding custom finishes, MSO now has the ability to do anything from a bespoke paint job all the way up to one-off limited editions. MSO was founded to maintain the iconic F1 as the 1990s superstar evolved into a museum-worthy showpiece; McLaren being McLaren, it also wanted to ensure the cars would remain competitive and stay on the road.

Courtesy McLaren

The launch of the Artura Spider came on the heels of one of the most successful quarters in the history of McLaren Automotive. At the same time, the company completed a capital restructuring process, and is now owned by one shareholder with one class of share, Abu Dhabi-based investment firm CYVN Holdings, which also acquired a a non-controlling stake in McLaren’s racing division.

Courtesy McLaren

That makes for both a leaner, simpler governance structure and a funding platform for investing in the future, all under a new entity named McLaren Group Holdings (MGH). The shift is already being felt, with longtime industry exec Nick Collins tapped to lead both MGH and McLaren Automotive earlier this year, replacing Michael Leiters.

Courtesy McLaren

There have been other appointments as well, including a new Chief Creative Officer, Alister Whelan, and Torsten Müller-Ötvös, former CEO of Rolls-Royce, who has joined McLaren’s non-executive board. Nor are they resting on their laurels; this summer the marque announced it will return to endurance racing at Le Mans in 2027, and debuted to the public the most recent successor to the F1, dubbed the W1, at the UK’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Courtesy McLaren

Only 399 examples of the $2.1 million hypercar, itself a beneficiary of Formula 1 technology and track time, are being made, and all have been spoken for. With a whopping 1,258 horsepower, twin-turbo V8 hybrid engine—more horses than the Koenigsegg Jesko and Lamborghini Reveulto—it’s the most powerful road-legal McLaren ever.

WhistlePig & Liquid Death Unearth ‘GraveStock’ Wheat Whiskey That’s Aged In Casket-Shaped Barrels https://www.maxim.com/food-drink/whistlepig-liquid-death-unearth-gravestock-wheat-whiskey-thats-aged-in-casket-shaped-barrels/ Fri, 20 Jun 2025 09:00:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=263644
(WhistlePig)

WhistlePig whiskey just dropped a new limited-edition spirit, WhistlePig GraveStock Wheat Whiskey, that’s proofed with Liquid Death Mountain Water and ghoulishly aged in casket-shaped barrels. The Vermont farm-based whiskey distillery—best known for headline-grabbing releases like a Super Troopers-themed cannabis-infused maple syrup and a Scotch-satirizing “Badönkådonk” whiskey— is once again channeling its cheeky spirit beyond the barrel courtesy of a partnership with Liquid Death.

Robb Report points out that the new release is just the latest WhistlePig bottle collaboration launched with other brands, following “CampStock (aged in barrels charred by a Solo Stove), PiggyBack Legends Series (subjected to g-forces in an F1 training facility while still inside a barrel), and SmokeStock (smoked using Traeger Grills apple barbecue wood).”

Meghan Ireland, Head Blender at WhistlePig, said of her latest bottle: “The custom casket-shaped foeders where GraveStock Wheat Whiskey finds its final resting place are the first of their kind, and a bucket list experiment we—literally—went big on.: She added that the graveyard-style vessels “add character in a subtle way that lets the nuance of the wheat whiskey shine. Wheat’s softness and easy style is rounded out with bright notes of honeysuckle, biscotti and butterscotch.”

(WhistlePig)

“Many bottled water brands are just processed municipal tap water, but our Liquid Death Mountain Water comes from real American mountain ranges that produce some of the best water in the world,” added Greg Fass, VP of Marketing at Liquid Death. “Proofing an already delicious WhistlePig whiskey with our premium mountain-sourced water is the type of attention to detail that should take this bottle to the next level.”

For those seeking a “transcendent summer sip,” WhistlePig suggests mixing GraveStock Wheat Whiskey into a “DeathBall” cocktail with Liquid Death’s sparkling waters and teas. Options include the “Classic DeathBall” with original sparkling Mountain Water, the “Pork Belly Up DeathBall” using Severed Lime sparkling water, or the sweeter “Armless Palmer DeathBall” with Dead Billionaire iced tea.

WhistlePig GraveStock Wheat Whiskey is bottled at 86 proof and presented in a 750ml bottle with a suggested retail price of $74.99. It is available for a limited time at select liquor stores, bars, and restaurants nationwide, as well as at shop.whistlepigwhiskey.com.

‘F1: The Movie’—What Critics Are Saying About The Brad Pitt-Led Racing Drama https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/f1-the-movie-what-critics-are-saying-about-the-brad-pitt-led-racing-drama/ Fri, 20 Jun 2025 09:00:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=263703
(F1 Poster/Warner Bros.)

In the week before its theater-wide release on June 27, F1: The Movie made its New York premiere, and the subsequent reviews from critics have been almost unanimously positive. Director Joseph Kosinski’s revved-up racing movie set within the cutthroat world of Formula 1 start Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, a veteran driver and a promising rookie who, despite being teammates, are embroiled in a bitter rivalry, at least as depicted in movie trailers.

At a glance, the 87 percent from 70 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes tells would-be theatergoers that the Lewis Hamilton-produced film may very well be worthy of a Champagne shower atop the racing flick podium. But for those who want to want to go little deeper, here are some takeaways excerpted from early reviews:

The Hollywood Reporter‘s arts and culture critic Lovia Gyarkye wrote in her review, “The strongest scenes in F1, which boasts a two-and-a-half hour runtime, are these moments during race weekends, when Kosinki embeds his fictional team with real ones. Fans of the sport will recognize cameos from Verstappen, Leclerc, Carlos Sainz, Lando Norris and many more drivers. Hans Zimmer’s adrenalized score ups the ante, adding tension to already nail-biting moments like a driver making a dangerous turn on a slick course or mechanics in the pit having mere seconds to switch out a car’s tires. The impressive craft of these scenes extends to Kosinki’s exploration of the various technologies, like road simulators, used to help drivers gain any advantage. Of course, there are some unrealistic elements in F1, moments that might have sticklers raising an eyebrow, but the film doesn’t feel any less dramatic than the real thing.”

Ross Bonaime, with Colliderwrote in his review, “Despite the excitement and stunning race footage that F1 provides, it’s also placed in a story that we’ve heard countless times before. And while that’s in no way damning here — not by a long shot — it is a bit silly at times in how much it plays in the clichés. Like a good racer, you’ll probably be able to tell where every turn and twist is going to go, yet it’s the quality and impressive nature in which F1 hits these turns that puts this in conversation for the best racing film ever made. When the excitement and tension of the races are as good as they are here, you can ignore a bit of canned dialogue or a goofy trope that has played itself out one too many times.”

The Guardian‘s Peter Bradshaw wrote, “With that amused-cowpoke face of his squashed into his safety helmet, making his sixtysomething cherubic chops bulge in towards his nose, Brad Pitt gets behind the wheel in this outrageously cheesy but fiercely and extravagantly shot Formula One melodrama. Along with a lot of enjoyable hokum about the old guy mentoring the rookie hothead (a plot it broadly shares with Pixar’s 2006 adventure Cars), F1 the Movie gives you the corporate sheen, real-life race footage with Brad as the star in an unreasonably priced car, the tech fetish of the cars themselves (almost making you forget how amazingly ugly they are) with brand names speckling every square inch of every surface, the simulation graphics writ large, and the bizarre occult spectacle of motor racing itself.”

David Fear, with Rolling Stonewrote in his review, “The way that Pitt injects his presence, his physicality, his charm, his well-honed screen persona, his particular mix of discipline and DGAF effortlessness, and his backhanded way of making outdated, Golden Age Hollywood roguishness feel completely somehow timeless is what makes this a winner. He even manages to upstage the cars. It’s a turn that reminds you of Clark Gable, Gary Cooper, Burt Lancaster, William Holden, and, notably Steve McQueen, no stranger to movies about racing. (It can’t be a coincidence that one of Hayes’ Zen-like pastimes is throwing a ball against a wall like McQueen in The Great Escape.F1 couldn’t feel more contemporary in its focus over a sport that’s the current obsession of millions, yet couldn’t feel more like a flashback to a bygone age where a larger-than-life movie star was the only necessary I.P. This is what blockbusters used to look like. Come for the most impressive, lustrous car that a gajillion-dollar budget can buy. The reason to stay, however, is the driver.

Consequence‘s Liz Shannon Miller opined, “The good news is that fans of the sport—old-timers as well as recent Drive to Survive converts alike—will feel electrified just by the big-screen spectacle of it all. To borrow some parlance that I now feel qualified to wield, this is a movie that hits a few skids, but does at least finish the race. And after watching this movie, you understand how much an achievement just finishing is.

Tate McRae Wants You To ‘Just Keep Watching’ Her Racy ‘F1’ Music Video https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/tate-mcrae-wants-you-to-just-keep-watching-her-racy-f1-music-video/ Tue, 03 Jun 2025 09:47:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=261389

A track titled “Just Keep Watching” written for one of the most anticipated motorsport-themed movies ever demands a visually engaging music video, and Tate McRae has delivered in spades. The pop sensation and Skims model‘s single from the Brad Pitt-led, Lewis Hamilton-produced F1: The Movie (out June 27) doesn’t let up with rapid-fire lyrics and a nightclub-ready groove, but it’s McRae’s moves (and attire) that are sure to rev up viewers.

(YouTube/Tate McRae)

We first see the sweaty Maxim Hot 100 star in a sheer top contorting her body to evoke the shape of surrounding racing slicks before another sequence shows McRae dressed in a form-fitted black outfit that, as Uproxx points out, is a subtle nod to the transformation of Olivia Newton-John’s Sandy from naive schoolgirl to 1950s dream girl in Grease.

(YouTube/Tate McRae)

The most eye-popping scenes show McRae in a white, carved-up one-piece as she hits more alluring poses atop an exercise bike and even tries out the neck-strengthening harnesses used by F1 drivers to ensure their heads stay upright under intense g-forces. To add a little more racing cred, the main footage of McRae is interspersed with shots of an F1 car being 3D-scanned and onboard-style POV racing shots.

(YouTube/Tate McRae)

With 3.14 million views and counting since its premiere on May 29, the “Just Keep Watching” music video had secured the No. 4 spot on YouTube’s Trending page at the time of publication, representing just the latest of McRae’s recent successes. Her latest album, So Close to What, debuted on February 21, 2025 at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 thanks to dance-pop anthems like “2 Hands” and “Sports Car.” Check out the music video and tour dates for her ongoing “Miss Possessive” summer arena tour below:

H. Moser & Cie. And Alpine Accelerate Formula 1 Racing Partnership With Innovative Watch Duo https://www.maxim.com/style/moser-cie-and-alpine-accelerate-formula-1-racing-partnership-with-innovative-watch-duo/ Fri, 30 May 2025 09:37:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=261135

Avant-garde Swiss watchmaker H. Moser & Cie. and French automotive brand Alpine have unveiled a groundbreaking collaboration that extends far beyond traditional brand logo swaps, introducing two timepieces engineered with the precision and performance demands of Formula 1 and endurance racing in mind. The high-octane partnership, which was memorably launched at the 2024 Miami Grand Prix, aims to redefine the synergy between horology and motorsport, focusing on authentic engineering integration rather than mere marketing.

To coincide with F1’s Spanish Grand Prix, H. Moser & Cie. presented the Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition and the Streamliner Alpine Mechanics Edition, a duo of watches that embody the daring spirit of both brands. The Streamliner Alpine Drivers Edition is said to be inspired by Alpine’s drivers. The chronograph features a skeletonized version of the high-flying AgenGraphe movement, developed by H. Moser & Cie.’s partner AGENHOR. The open dial, a result of direct input from the drivers, reveals the intricate mechanics, mirroring the exposed engineering of a race car. The blue and white color scheme evokes speed and Alpine’s signature identity.

Design elements draw direct inspiration from the racetrack. V-shaped bridges visible through the dial nod to single-seater suspensions, while the central bridge is shaped like a driver’s helmet. The skeletonized rotor, positioned on the dial side, echoes the dynamic lines of an Alpine A110 wheel rim. Emphasizing minimalism and legibility, the chronograph features a central minute and seconds display and a flyback function for instantaneous restarts, crucial in the split-second world of Formula 1. The HMC 700 skeleton calibre boasts a contemporary anthracite finish and a 72-hour power reserve.

The Streamliner Alpine Mechanics Edition takes a different approach, designed as a practical tool for the engineers and mechanics behind the scenes. This world-first watch combines a digital core with an analogue display, developed on a specific technological platform in close collaboration with the Alpine teams. Its purpose is to streamline communication, accelerate processes, and save crucial fractions of a second.

The watch features a “magic” black screen that remains silent until activated, displaying GMT with country selector, a split-seconds chronograph, a perpetual calendar, and an F1 mode with a countdown to races and team-specific alerts. This digital functionality is paired with a small, domed Funky Blue fumé dial displaying the time and date with the H. Moser & Cie. logo in transparent lacquer. Compatible with Android and iOS, it syncs via Bluetooth and offers a year-long power reserve in time-only mode or enough for six Grand Prix in connected mode.

Edouard Meylan, CEO of H. Moser & Cie., stated in a release announcing the timepieces that the goal was to create “a measuring instrument that meets the demands of a Formula 1 team, a tool designed to accompany their missions and further improve their race against the clock.” Both models are offered as a set, limited to 200 pieces, priced at $70,000. The connected Mechanics Edition can also be purchased separately by owners of the Streamliner Cylindrical Tourbillon Skeleton Alpine models launched in 2024.

Tag Heuer’s Monaco Chronograph Celebrates Iconic Racing Heritage Of The F1 Grand Prix https://www.maxim.com/style/tag-heuers-monaco-chronograph-celebrates-iconic-racing-heritage-of-the-f1-grand-prix/ Wed, 28 May 2025 07:36:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=260851 Some watches prove their worth on display in a collection, and others prove their mettle in the real world: The Tag Heuer Monaco does a bit of both, but carries a rich legacy forward in the auto racing world. The Swiss watchmaker’s latest nods to its past, present and future role, as the handsome Tag Heuer Monaco x Gulf Chronograph helped ring in (and close out) a luxe weekend at Formula 1’s Monaco Grand Prix.

In a race won by McLaren driver Lando Norris (who ran a “flawless weekend,” according to NBC News), Tag Heuer celebrated its deep racing heritage with a bold duo of Monaco updates in partnership with Gulf. The vibrant pairing dates back to when Steve McQueen wore the now-iconic Monaco model and Gulf’s blue-and-orange kit racing his equally iconic Porsche 917K in 1971 classic Le Mans, speeding off into movie and watchmaking history in the process. And according to Tag Heuer’s The Edge Magazine, McQueen selected the dial himself. The man knew a thing or two about watches, performance and style, suffice to say.

The 2025 edition of the partnership now results in what the watchmaker calls a “bold, defiant dial,” using a clean silver dial finish that helps Gulf’s stripes and colors (and logo) pop nicely in its crisp, signature 39mm square case. The watchmaker further calls the limited-edition watch “a timepiece for true connoisseurs,” noting that the famed Monaco (in partnership with Tag Heuer’s official sponsorship of Formula 1) “roars back to the spotlight with the spirit of motorsport’s golden era.”

Available on a textured white strap or a perforated deep navy blue racing stripe (the kind McQueen and F1 drivers of today might favor), the new duo pays homage to the “the colors, spirit, and swagger” of the driver, actor and style icon’s famed role.

Accordingly, the Tag Heuer Monaco x Gulf Chronograph is limited to 971 pieces, in a nod to the release year of the acclaimed Le Mans. In a further fitting nod to the film and McQueen’s role, the vivid white textured strap is crafted from the same material as the racing suit worn onscreen.

(Tag Heuer)

Further editions of the Tag Heuer Monaco Gulf Chronograph build off a vibrant blue dial that also pairs nicely with Gulf racing stripes in orange and white. Complete with the ‘Gulf’ logo and the Tag Heuer Monaco insignia in between the watch’s instantly recognizable dual-chronograph build, the timepiece is one fit for savvy collectors, fans of Steve McQueen and racing buffs in equal measure: Just be sure to wear it as McQueen would, out in the field and on the road.
