In this instance, that means the highly durable chore jacket, with its real-world workwear roots dating back to the French countryside, is as admirable a piece of fall outerwear as any.

Often featuring chest and hip pockets and a shirt jacket-like collar, the best chore coats deliver durability, warmth and roguish good looks, with construction that’s plenty fit for layering atop a selection of thermal henleys or a classic flannel shirt.

Fabrications range from the luxe (like moleskin or corduroy) to the ultra-rugged (like cotton canvas), with brands like Huckberry and premium designers like Billy Reid and Todd Snyder delivering an expert eye for detail. Your best outdoor life awaits, starting with these prime selections for a new favorite chore jacket.

Flint and Tinder Classic Chore Coat

(Huckberry)

In addition to its highly durable and frankly excellent line of waxed outerwear, Huckberry’s own Flint and Tinder leans heavily into the spirit of the vintage chore coat, first worn most commonly by French rail workers. Its new version of the Classic Chore Coat is a touch more modern in terms of fit and fabrication, featuring a mid-weight stretch cotton blend in a slew of versatile colorways. $178

Todd Snyder Lightweight Japanese Selvedge Chore Coat

(Todd Snyder)

The workwear roots of dependable denim are a natural fit alongside the tried-and-true silhouette of the chore coat. Famed American menswear designer Todd Snyder’s version turns a rich shade of ‘bourbon’ Japanese selvedge into a tough-as-nails chore coat that blends luxury with a dash of rugged appeal. $398

Line of Trade Carpenter Chore Coat

(Bespoke Post)

Line of Trade, the in-house brand at Bespoke Post (a true one-stop shop for some of the coolest gear for guys, period) dove into iconic, expertly crafted vintage chore coats and the brisk climes of autumn when designing its heritage-meets-modern offering. Priced at under $100, it boasts durable hardware, a throwback corduroy collar and dependable cotton canvas construction in a wildly affordable package. $98

Billy Reid Waxed Chore Jacket

(Billy Reid)

Tracing the provenance of a piece of menswear pays off: Billy Reid, the legendary Alabama designer, worked with Scotland’s Halley Stevensons on a custom ripstop fabric that was then translated into this expertly crafted chore coat. Fall breezes and autumn rain don’t stand a chance. $248.50

Taylor Stitch Ojai Jacket

(Taylor Stitch)

The French version of the chore coat (the original marker for the style) gets a modern revamp in a handsome shade of Bourbon Corduroy, placing this refined-yet-rugged chore coat somewhere between a workwear staple and a hybrid blazer. The San Francisco-based outfitter says this jacket packs a “serious visual wallop,” and we tend to agree. $248

Le Mont St. Michel Moleskin French Work Jacket

(Huckberry)

Go straight to the source and pick up a true icon in the world of chore coats: This handsome moleskin chore coat has been made the same way for over a century, and its tightly woven construction even repels water. $275

Carhartt WIP OG Chore Coat

(Huckberry)

Carhartt is essentially the first name in durable workwear, and the Carhartt WIP brand (which isn’t formally associated with the Detroit company) is like its cool-kid sidekick, in a way. 12oz. organic cotton canvas gets a diamond-quilted lining, while the boxy fit is ready for urban exploration and leaf-peeping in equal measure. $298

Relwen Pile-Lined Chore Coat

(Huckberry)

Relwen leans heavily on military heritage inspiration, which helps explain why its lineup manages to feel classic and yet fresh at the same time. Unique fabrications like rich corduroy and a soft pile lining complement rich brown corduroy fabric and a tailored fit that calls to mind a more rugged version of the corduroy blazer. $298

Filson Canvas Outfitter Jacket

(Filson)

With its highly durable canvas construction, sturdy corduroy collar and a plethora of pockets, this hard-wearing Filson chore coat is a prime move when the great outdoors calls your name this fall. One of the pockets might even prove nicely sized for a flask, along with the rest of your everyday carry. $199

3sixteen French Work Jacket

(Huckberry)

The famed modern denimheads at 3sixteen dreamed up the perfect pairing alongside selvedge denim, and it’s a suitably workwear-inspired moleskin cotton jacket with double-stitched pockets for expert attention to detail in every thread. $330

Supreme And Dickies Just Teamed Up On The Perfect Fall Workwear Collection https://www.maxim.com/style/supreme-and-dickies-just-teamed-up-on-the-perfect-fall-workwear-collection/ Wed, 17 Sep 2025 10:00:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=271719 Vaunted New York City streetwear brand Supreme certainly has been on a hot streak lately, one that only gets better (and more rugged) with the new Supreme x Dickies Fall Collection.

(Supreme)

Arriving hot on the heels of a lauded Supreme x Nike SB Dunk Low drop, the collab sees the skate-meets-street musings of Supreme join forces with another certified cool kid brand in Fort Worth-based Dickies, another company now en vogue among skaters and streetwear aficionados. And while the rugged-yet-fashionable offering doesn’t boast anything quite as outlandish as the Supreme-branded golf cart from the brand’s Fall/Winter 2025 Collection, there’s a distinct edge to the collection, which leans heavily on iconic Dickies outewear silhouettes in mixed-media fabrication.

(Supreme)

Hard-wearing fabrics like Dickies’ iconic cotton-canvas meet luxe finishes like faux-fur collars, while the offering also includes expertly faded cordura cargo workwear pants. The curated offering includes a hooded flannel shirt and a thermal base layer in true Dickies fashion, and a faded Cordura six-panel cap is adorned with an oversized Dickies logo.

(Supreme)

A Cordura hooded work jacket also manages to fuse field-ready functionality with an air of downtown cool, with a denim fabrication that’s lived-in right out of the box (and yet made to be broken in further, from the half pipe to the dive bar). The Supreme x Dickies Fall Collection also offers a camo variation of its hooded work jacket, while subtle co-branded patches tend to appear on lower hand pockets in a subtle “in the know” sort of way.

(Supreme)

The collection is tied together seamlessly throughout by the same building blocks in terms of pattern and color: Camo, blue and black, along with a tan Cordura jacket, manage to deliver a “mix-and-match” feel that streetwear enthusiasts surely will appreciate. With the collection dropping on September 18th, one imagines certain selections (especially the hooded faux fur work jacket with a reversible design) will sell out quickly at Supreme’s hotly trafficked stores.

(Supreme)

The Dickies product line, with its 100-plus-year lineage of remarkable quality, offers the perfect blank slate for Supreme to add its own dash of streetwear edge. There’s even the addition of grunge-approved flannel shirts in classic red-and-black, while the collaboration’s tasteful use of branding makes each piece feel lived-in, rather than over-the-top.

(Supreme)

Supreme certainly remains a brand for those in the know, and Dickies can lay claim to much of the same fashion insider appeal. Look for the Supreme x Dickies Fall Collection online and in Supreme stores starting September 18th, followed by a September 20th drop in Asia: Shoulder season just got even cooler.

Converse Revamps Chuck 70 High-Tops With Our Legacy Work Shop Collaboration https://www.maxim.com/style/converse-revamps-chuck-70-high-tops-with-our-legacy-work-shop/ Fri, 12 Sep 2025 11:01:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=271360 When a silhouette just so happens to be an icon that redefined a category, the possibilities for reinvention are (almost) limitless. And so, tastemaking fashion label Our Legacy drops its own revamped version of the Converse Chuck 70 through Our Legacy Work Shop, starting today.

Impact-Site-Verification: 776b341a-6266-4a8d-9dc9-25c4146aa67c
(Converse)

Two versions of the Our Legacy Work Shop Chuck 70s are now up for grabs at Our Legacy’s London, Stockholm, Berlin, and Seoul shops, as well as the buzzed-about Dover Street Market across its global locations (London, New York, Los Angeles, Beijing and Paris). Add in online availability via both brands, and you’ve got a recipe for a hotly anticipated sneaker drop that puts a fresh spin on some of the most timeless sneakers on the market.

(Converse)

The durable Work Shop Chuck 70s are now seen in both a handsome, dark Espresso and an undyed Natural organic cotton canvas fabrication, and while they look the same on the surface, they feature retooled detailing across the board. As Our Legacy notes, the latest version of the Converse Chuck 70 now features hand-pulled foxing tape with a more uneven design in an homage to Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers ranging in era from the 1960s through the 1980s. Other fresh updates include shorter toe caps and irregular bumpers on the sole of the sneakers, the company said.

(Converse)

“We’ve created our dream Chuck 70’s by simply adding the human factor, leaning into the imperfections we admire from the Chuck Taylors made in the 1960’s-80’s,” said Our Legacy’s Jockum Hallin, as the company in the process tried to “highlight the beauty in those human-made ”flaws” that occurred back then,” he added.

(Converse)

With a campaign shot on the beaches of Cornwall in the United Kingdom by Ian Kenneth Bird, the new look of the old-school Chucks manages to feel pleasingly different for those who value classic style with a twist. And since they’re priced to sell at a mere $150, one imagines the latest version of the Converse Chuck 70 (a style also worn by NBA star Devin Booker) will continue to hold strong as a must-have for sneaker collectors and Our Legacy enthusiasts.

Reigning Champ Debuts Refined Collection Of Heritage Sportswear For Fall/Winter 2025 https://www.maxim.com/style/reigning-champ-debuts-refined-collection-of-heritage-sportswear-for-fall-winter-2025/ Mon, 08 Sep 2025 08:00:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=270482 Even the most utterly classic pieces in the menswear world (like the rugby shirt, the hoodie or the flannel overshirt) can use a fresh eye from time to time, and modern reinvention plus timeless style is at the core of the new Reigning Champ Fall/Winter 2025 Collection.

(Reigning Champ)

Building off what it calls a “firm foundation of icons,” the newly launched collection from the made-in-Canada sportswear brand goes well beyond its roots as an athletic company, which has also collaborated with the likes of PUMA in recent months.

(Reigning Champ)

First known for its crewneck sweatshirts, hoodies and gym-approved joggers, Reigning Champ has enough variety in its lineup to dress the stylish modern gentleman for an entire day: From an early morning run through to speakeasy cocktails, the new Reigning Champ Fall/Winter 2025 Collection is guided by variety and versatility. For Reigning Champ, the collection represents “an ongoing pursuit of the modern uniform, where rugged sophistication and utility meet in quiet balance.”

(Reigning Champ)

Luxe fabrics like cashmere are joined by hearty wool and comfortable stretch cotton knits across a range of pieces, from base-layer henleys to tailored trousers and a robust selection of outerwear. Tailored topcoats add a dash of crisp refinement, while the brand stays true to its roots with a luxurious take on the coach’s jacket and an ornately finished, bold logo rugby polo.

(Reigning Champ)

A selection of handsome flannel shirts and overshirts are rendered in shades of charcoal, grey, navy and olive, with the Cotton Plaid Union Standard Shirt (seen above) offering a minimal twist on the traditional red-and-black plaid flannel shirt. Sporty striped joggers and logo hooded sweatshirts deliver performance-minded functionality for brisk fall and winter morning runs, and the Cotton Chino Keeper Cargo Pants provide trail-ready utility in a look that’s got more than a dash of streetwear influence in its design.

(Reigning Champ)

While the collection is more muted and nowhere near as flashy as the sportswear-meets-streetwear designs of, say, the new Supreme Fall/Winter 2025 Collection, the latest Reigning Champ offering certainly feels more elevated than typical gym-going gear.

(Reigning Champ)

Outerwear takes its cues from outdoor-ready materials like GORE-TEX, as well as sturdy nylon twill and quilted down designs for a mixed-media approach. The company’s “proven palette” (ranging from deep emerald green to classic shades like navy, charcoal, black and khaki) helps “bridge the familiar and the new,” the company notes.

(Reigning Champ)

The handsome collection seamlessly blends sportswear and business casual tailoring to great effect, including crisp buttondown shirting alongside its signature assortment of remarkably well-made t-shirts and knitwear. Pricing starts at $48 for t-shirts in a wide array of colors, while an elegant Herringbone Scout Coat represents the top of the lineup at $525. The new Reigning Champ Fall/Winter 2025 Collection is available now online through the brand and at its stores in Vancouver and Toronto, so plan ahead accordingly for the start of shoulder season.

Carhartt WIP Gives Workwear A High-Fashion Edge With Fall/Winter 2025 Lookbook https://www.maxim.com/style/carhartt-wip-gives-workwear-a-high-fashion-edge-with-fall-winter-2025-lookbook/ Mon, 04 Aug 2025 08:47:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=267641 The familiar in menswear offers an air of reliability and utility you can count on, and Carhartt WIP uses that lens to give tried-and-true workwear favorites a luxe reboot for the season ahead. The just-dropped Carhartt WIP Fall/Winter 2025 Lookbook showcases a brand in motion, breathing new life into time-tested silhouettes.

(Carhartt WIP)

Carhartt WIP has been a tastemaking distant relative of Carhartt (note that Carhartt isn’t its parent company) since WIP’s 1994 founding by Edwin Faeh. The company’s first store opened in London in 1997, where workwear jackets and trusty canvas and denim pants (this time with a suitably edgy finish for fall) are still very much in vogue among taste-making skaters, models, DJ’s and more.

(Carhartt WIP)

When it comes to Carhartt WIP’s accessible high-fashion take on the instantly recognizable ‘C’ logo, the brand says it’s important to note the company “engages with different cultural spheres: from Detroit and Berlin’s symbiotic techno scenes, to skateboarding and its communities that span Paris, New York, and Seoul, to the contemporary art world,” the brand said.

(Carhartt WIP)

Carhartt WIP has also lent its keen eye to retooled silhouettes ranging from a new spin on the Converse Chuck Taylor to the iconoclast look of the Clarks Wallabee in recent years, cementing the brand’s status as a fashionable icon.

(Carhartt WIP)

If you’re heading anywhere with a scene this fall, consider wearing a piece (or two, or three) from the forthcoming Carhartt WIP fall drop. The Carhartt WIP Spring/Summer 2025 Collection featured a similar sense of respect for the past, and a range of trusty Carhartt WIP favorites remain intact for fall/winter 2025, including retooled versions of the Carhartt WIP Detroit Jacket, which features 12oz. organic cotton construction for a sturdy finish.

(Carhartt WIP)

Noted fashion photographer Léa Ceheivi shot the lookbook, highlighting Carhartt WIP looks in eye-catching camo, plus rich earthen tones and vivid shades of red and mustard for the colder months. The photographer’s eye for the avant-garde offers a contrast to an industrial skyline backdrop. Within the collection itself, workwear silhouettes like double-knee carpenter pants, a thick-knit logo hoodie and a variety of Carhartt WIP fleece vests and chore coats get a revamped look ahead of the brisk fall and winter months, too.

(Carhartt WIP)

Houndstooth wool and classic railroad striping add a shot of pattern to scarves and shirting within the offering, while a houndstooth wool chore coat is perhaps the most impressive piece on offer. There’s no word yet as to when the new Carhartt WIP Fall/Winter 2025 collection will be available online, but expect lighter-weight pieces (especially workwear tees) to roll out via the Carhartt WIP online store in the coming month.

Todd Snyder Just Dropped His First Woolrich Black Label Collaboration https://www.maxim.com/style/todd-snyder-just-dropped-his-first-woolrich-black-label-collaboration/ Tue, 15 Oct 2024 08:45:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=243425 Updating heritage classics for the modern age can prove tricky, but in the hands of Todd Snyder, nothing is too far out of reach. The award-winning American designer just debuted his first collection as the creative director of Woolrich Black Label, and it arrives in the nick of time for absurdly cool seasonal style.

(Todd Snyder)

Snyder, who lately returned to the runway at New York Fashion Week, debuted as creative director of the premium, new Woolrich Black Label with a January show at menswear haven Pitti Uomo. Now, those coveted styles are hitting shelves, and there’s plenty of rugged luxury to go around.

(Todd Snyder)

The 65-piece collection splits into two different lines, each honoring the heritage of Woolrich while incorporating modern flourishes. The Heritage line boasts, for instance, a plaid shirt in the company’s instantly recognizable black-and-red, yet this time it’s done in super-soft Italian cashmere.

(Todd Snyder)

The Technical offering, on the other hand, features full-length parkas (among other options) made from advanced material like drip-dyed nylon. Snyder noted the Technical line gave him the chance to focus on “clothing that can handle the demands of the great outdoors and be the statement pieces in a city wardrobe.”

(Todd Snyder)

For the award-winning designer, working with Woolrich was a way to tap into his Midwest roots, the Iowa-born creative said. “It felt very fresh to start with outdoor styles and then refresh them in more modern silhouettes and premium fabrics,” Snyder said of the Heritage Collection specifically. “I wore Woolrich as a kid, and so transforming their iconic pieces into styles for the modern adventurer was a dream come true.”

(Todd Snyder)

The brand noted that the refined-yet-functional collection is “high-performance enough for serious outdoor use, but refined enough for city dwellers.” The end result isn’t unlike much of the menswear Snyder has released as of late, blending luxe Italian suiting with more casual options, like a new fall denim collection, among other ultra-stylish selections.

(Todd Snyder)

The enviable collection is available exclusively in North America as well as online via Todd Snyder. For those who want to select their next prized Woolrich parka in person, the offering can be found at Snyder’s four New York locations, plus The Grove in Los Angeles, The Superette in Boston and Chicago’s The Townhouse.

(Todd Snyder)

There might not be a more fresh yet historically inclined fall and winter menswear collection on the market right now than Todd Snyder’s first for Woolrich, and that alone is worthy of a shoulder season upgrade. Future iterations of Woolrich Black Label now have a high bar to clear.

J. Crew Just Dropped A Fresh Fall Menswear Collection With Engineered Garments https://www.maxim.com/style/j-crew-just-dropped-a-fresh-fall-menswear-collection-with-engineered-garments/ Fri, 11 Oct 2024 14:00:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=243310 Timing is everything in the world of fall fashion, and expert curation can take a wardrobe from good to great. That ethos is at the heart of the new J. Crew x Engineered Garments Fall Collection, an inspired take on autumn style blending the modern and the rugged.

(J. Crew)

J. Crew, which made waves this summer with a collection timed to the release of hit TV series The Bear, again appears poised to seize the style moment. And its new collection with the famed Japanese-American brand stylishly and seamlessly blends downtown cool with the great outdoors.

(J. Crew)

It’s a fitting partnership that puts a new spin on J. Crew’s Americana outlook. The Daiki Suzuki-founded company is celebrating its 25th year, and has teamed up with other all-American favorites like Vans and Sebago in the past.

(J. Crew)

The new collection takes an approach that toes the line between the worlds of each brand. As Crew notes, the offering focuses on “generous fits, creative pocket placements and signature pieces,” including a collaborative hooded sweater vest that’s “split at the sides for easy layering.” The collaboration’s standout pieces include tasteful pleated pants, Oxford and utility shirting, fleece crewneck sweatshirts and even a rugged, J. Crew-esque denim twill shirt.

(J. Crew)

The J. Crew team said it worked with Engineered Garments to “push the boundaries on foundational styles we’re known for, resulting in familiar yet unexpected takes on staples like merino wool sweaters, military-inspired chinos, heritage outerwear and more.” And as of today, that fresh take on traditional Northeast style can be yours online at J. Crew. Shoulder season has (arguably) never looked better.

The Filson Winter’s Range Collection Is Built For Rugged Cold Weather Style https://www.maxim.com/style/filsons-winters-range-collection-is-built-for-rugged-cold-weather-style/ Wed, 09 Oct 2024 09:42:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=243106 You could make the case that it’s never too soon to prepare for winter’s worst, and Filson’s bold new Winter’s Range Collection strikes an expert balance between form and function when temperatures plummet.

(Filson)

The collection falls on the heels of the Filson Fall 2024 lineup, which saw an array of fresh updates to a slew of classics, including the Pacific Northwest outfitter’s iconic flannel shirts, shirt jackets and hard-wearing wool outerwear.

(Filson)

The Winter’s Range Collection doubles down, so to speak, and amps things up in terms of texture, heavyweight fabrics and extreme warmth in the bone-chilling cold. The Mackinaw Wool Hooded Cruiser Jacket in a rich plaid is about as ready for intense winter weather as it gets, boasting weather-resistant 100 percent virgin wool construction.

(Filson)

Performance-minded pieces, like an active-minded assortment of merino sweaters and base layers, add even more utility to the offering. Richly crafted staples like the Filson Field Flannel Shirt also return in a timeless assortment of plaids, stripes and solids — one for every day of the week, you might say.

(Filson)

The Winter’s Range Collection also joins an impressive run of recent collaborations for the 127-year-old heritage brand, including the Filson x Chris Stapleton Archival Mackinaw Cruiser Jacket. That particular update to a flagship Filson product is based on an archival style picked by the famed country rocker himself.

(Filson)

Filson’s Heritage 3-Gauge Wool Sweater is a particular highlight of the new, outdoor-approved collection, bult with 100 percent natural wool and a burly construction that someone like Hemingway might find essential.

(Filson)

There are also pieces that hit the sweet spot in matters of both style and utility, like the Filson Long Mackinaw Wool Cruiser. It’s an investment at $1,025, and features extremely tough 24oz., 100 percent wool construction in a knee-length fit that (surprisingly) looks like something you might find on the runways of New York Fashion Week. And yet, the Seattle company remains true to its heritage across the entire assortment: If there’s one brand you can count on when the going gets tough, it’s got to be Filson.

Barbour Debuts Fall/Winter 2024 Heritage+ Collection https://www.maxim.com/style/barbour-debuts-fall-winter-2024-heritage-collection/ Fri, 06 Sep 2024 10:22:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=241115 The best menswear essentials tend to stand the test of time, and then some: Iconic silhouettes gain their utility for a reason, and Barbour’s heritage never seems to miss the mark.

(Barbour)

That happens to be the case quite literally with the new Barbour Heritage+ Fall/Winter 2024 Collection, a rugged assortment that adds to the British company’s legacy of the best waxed cotton jackets (and more).

(Barbour)

From the luxe Barbour Gold Standard line to its instantly recognizable roster of durable waxed jackets, utility is the name of the game, along with a new-and-improved look and feel for the fall season, the company said. Menswear Director Ian Bergin called the new lineup “Barbour in its most authentic form.”

(Barbour)

Bergin added that the offering “has all the traditional construction methods you’d expect from us, with tartan liners and brass hardware, but with a more directional attitude. We’ve carefully taken archive pieces and reissued them – altering the fit to suit today’s customer.”

(Barbour)

Classic legacy pieces like the Bedale wax jacket and the Spey waterproof jacket join the lineup in tougher fabrications and more clean, modern fits, while crewneck sweaters and a range of boxy T-shirts speak to both the ’90s and the present day in matters of style.

(Barbour)

The collection at large leans on an earthy palette, as its legendary Bedale waxed jacket tends to look best in deep shades of olive and brown. The British outfitter looked to its South Shields factory archive for inspiration, at the same time introducing entirely new models for the next generation, including the streamlined Field Vertical Quilted Jacket.

(Barbour)

With an emphasis on durability and heritage style, Barbour takes a time-honored approach suitable for blustery highland days, weekend park strolls and explorations far afield, especially with its hard-wearing waxed jackets. As it turns out, even the best heritage and the most legendary styles can be made even better through a refreshed approach, and Barbour proves that quite handily.
