Early on in her career, she was often labeled “the most beautiful woman in the world.” This might have played havoc with the mind of a lesser mortal; for Brigitte Bardot, forever typecast as the blonde bombshell, it was all in a day’s work. Throughout her illustrious career, she acted in 47 films, performed in several musicals, and recorded more than 60 songs. She became a muse for the likes of Christian Dior, Pierre Balmain, and Pierre Cardin. And she was awarded the Legion of Honour, France’s highest decoration, in 1985, ten years after retiring at age 40 to pursue a “more meaningful life” out of the withering glare of the press, when she could have continued to shine on the silver screen.

Bardot appears to be having a major moment in 2025. Sabrina Carpenter’s new Vogue Italia cover shoot, shot by fashion photographer Steven Meisel, was clearly influenced by the legendary actress’s ’60s-era glamour. And two new art books pay tribute to her considerable legacy. Being Bardot, published by ACC Art Books, features photography by Douglas Kirkland and Terry O’Neill, who took some of the most iconic images of the actress ever captured on film; while Brigitte Bardot: Intimate, from Assouline, showcases never-before-published photos by her longtime friend Glislain “Jicky” Dussart. All still utterly enthralling nearly six decades later.

Photographed by Ghislain Dussart (Assouline)

“In a period of just a little more than 20 years, Brigitte Bardot exploded established perceptions of beauty and femininity,” writes author James Clarke in the introduction to Being Bardot. “In doing so, she dramatically rewrote expectations around—and perhaps even established a new version of—femininity. She was a movie star and a pop-culture icon whose image was emblematic of a particular moment in time. Bardot’s film career spanned 21 years, from 1951 to 1973. Her screen performances, and the still images of her that became such a constant and vivid element of popular culture, brought a new sense of what female movie stardom could be, not only in French cinema but globally.”

Bardot’s killer looks and knockout style have been emulated by the likes of Claudia Schiffer, Kate Moss, Lara Stone, Amy Winehouse, Georgia May Jagger, Scarlett Johansson, and Paris Hilton. Asked about her many imitators, Bardot simply sniffed, ”None have my personality.” She put Saint-Tropez on the map after filming And God Created Woman there in 1953, directed by her husband Roger Vadim, establishing such a strong connection with the Mediterranean paradise that she lives there to this day, having made it her permanent home; many of Dussart’s photographs were taken there.

Terry O’Neill created one of the most iconic images ever taken of Bardot, a photograph of her smoking a cigarette on the set of The Legend of Frenchie King in 1971.”I thought if I could get a close-up of the moment the wind blew her trademark hair into her eyes, combined with the cigarette dangling from those lips, it would capture how sexy, strong and wild her image was,” O’Neill recalls in Being Bardot. “I didn’t have many frames left, so I went in closer. The wind blew, and I clicked the shutter. I had no idea if the photo would match the image I had in my mind until the film was developed. The first time I saw these images, I got chills.” It’s safe to say that the rest of the world did, too.

On the occasion of her 90th birthday, the town of Villefranchesur-Mer, another picturesque French Riviera town she elevated to icon status, honored Bardot with a celebratory photo exhibition. “The images show her sometimes bursting with joy, sometimes introspective, but always imbued with this aura which has fascinated and still fascinates entire generations,” the exhibition noted. “Bardot’s authenticity is one of the most striking to people. Even though she was a global star, she always stayed true to who she was and did not yield to the expectations of others.”

From the very start of her career, the curators wrote, “from Paris to Saint-Tropez and via Villefranche-sur-Mer, all along her path to fame, from one film to the next, Brigitte had all the makings of a celebrity: Whether copied, scrutinized, followed, persecuted or adored, she made one successful film after another based on her sex appeal, in which she often plays a young French woman who is portrayed as wild, suave, and beautiful. Often the object—and victim— of a malicious curiosity, on screen she is revealed as a true, uninhibited and moving actress. Bardot irritated and amused her contemporaries all the more by her blatant disregard of public opinion and lack of approval of known critiques.”

The cover of “Brigitte Bardot: Intimate” (Assouline)

Her impact on cinema, fashion, and culture cannot be overstated, all the more so because she decided to turn her back on it and devote herself to a cause close to her heart; in 1986, she founded the Fondation Brigitte Bardot to protect wild and domesticated animals. Beyond simply becoming famous, she radically altered the whole concept of female stardom. And she continues to influence and inspire generations of actresses, models, and women from all walks of life. Vive Bardot.

‘The Impossible Collection Of Motorcycles’ Gets Bigger With High-Octane Coffee Table Book https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/the-impossible-collection-of-motorcycles-gets-expanded-edition-of-gorgeous-coffee-table-book/ Wed, 01 Oct 2025 10:45:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=272745

“One of the things I love about motorcycles is the variety of people who are fanatics about them—you tend to have this idea of a motorcyclist as either a super trendy tatted café racing hipster, or a Sons of Anarchy denimed-up gangster.

But the truth of the matter is that people who love escaping into the hills on motorcycles are about as varied as they come,” reveals Maxim Deputy Editor Nicolas Stecher, who also happens to be co-author of Assouline’s new uber-luxe The Impossible Collection of Motorcycles coffee table book. “That means that the type of motorcycles that were built to appeal to these passionate riders over the past 150 years are about as varied as Ben & Jerry’s.”

For the second edition of The Impossible Collection of Motorcycles, Stecher and co-author Ian Barry added ten new 21st-century bikes to the hundred they collected for the first edition, which focused on the previous century.

Featuring only the rarest, coolest, and most pivotal motorcycles since 1900, this new edition adds to Assouline’s vaunted Impossible Collection series, which has previously shined a light on everything from wines to Patek Philippe timepieces to even Formula One cars—which also happens to be included in our Ferrari F1 feature in Maxim’s September/October issue.

And these aren’t just routine coffee table books, mind you. They’re massive in scale (16 x 19 inches), and boast beautiful time-consuming and rare printing techniques such as hand-tipped images and hand-binding; the 170 images come presented on thick, archival-quality cotton paper with a PVC clamshell case and metal plaque.

With Barry’s pedigree designing and building museum-level custom bikes under the Falcon Motorcycles marque, and our esteemed editor’s long history in automotive journalism, the hundred bikes assembled here are each a gem worthy of the book’s title. Consider Evel Knievel’s famed Harley-Davidson XR750 on which he leapt over the Caesars Palace fountains, breaking countless bones upon impact when his jump fell awry.

Or early unicorns of engineering, such as Glenn Curtiss’s iconic 1907 V8, for which the famed aviator impossibly bolted a massive 4.4-liter V8 engine onto essentially a glorified bicycle frame to create a true spectacle of mechanical force. Hitting 136 mph, the Curtiss V8 shattered the land speed record and held it for decades.

But which is our deputy editor’s favorite? “That’s a tough one,” Stecher struggles, seemingly running through the hundred motorcycles in his mind. “I’d say my two favorites are the BMW R7, which graces the cover—an unbelievable one-off specimen of German engineering and art-deco design that was thought lost for nearly 70 years until discovered in 2005 in a BMW warehouse. What a story, and what a bike. And maybe the Britten V1000—a superbike entirely designed and built by a New Zealand madman in his garage, which beat factory teams with infinitely deeper wallets. That’s another thing: I really dig the visionaries behind these bikes, all of them the best kind of rogues and renegades this planet needs.”

Of course, a tome of this rare scale and quality boasts a $1,400 price tag to match. Find The Impossible Collection of Motorcycles (2nd Edition) at Assouline.com.

Pablo Picasso, Zao Wou-Ki, David Hockney, Claude Monet Lead Lavish Lineup At Hong Kong Art Auctions https://www.maxim.com/news/pablo-picasso-zao-wou-ki-david-hockney-claude-monet-lead-lavish-lineup-at-hong-kong-art-auctions/ Fri, 26 Sep 2025 09:00:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=272664
“Buste de Femme” by Pablo Picasso (Christie’s)

The world’s biggest auction houses host international art sales at their Hong Kong headquarters semiannually. As of this year, their springtime sales take place during Art Basel Hong Kong. This fall, for the first time, Christie’s, Sotheby’s, and Phillips—the big three houses—are also holding their autumn modern and contemporary auctions this weekend, in the wake of Typhoon Ragasa. Art by top dogs like Andy Warhol, KAWS, Takashi Murakami and more are set to hit the block.

In recent years, the Hong Kong fall auctions have offered temperature checks. Last year they were the first major art sales to happen after the American election. This year, they mark the art world’s first sales after a summer rife with gallery closures. Yes, last week’s Pauline Karpidas sale broke records, but that was a special, once-in-a-lifetime type of sale. Last fall’s Hong Kong results were lackluster, as were this spring’s. So, it will be interesting to see how this week goes.

“Twelfth Painting” by David Hockney (Christie’s)

Christie’s kicks the party off with a 20th/21st Century Evening Sale on Friday. Pablo Picasso’s “Bust de femme” (1944), immortalizing his muse Dora Maar, leads the rockstar lineup with an estimate of $11,060,488 to $13,632,695. The auction debut of Chinese-French abstractionist Zao Wou-Ki’s 1963 painting “17.3.63” follows, with an estimate of $9,002,723 to $11,574,930. David Hockney, Claude Monet, and Louis Vuitton collaborator Yayoi Kusama will also appear.

On Saturday, Christie’s will host a 20th Century auction led by Hockney’s “The Twelfth V.N. Painting “ (1992) (est. $1,929,155 – $2,572,206), which has never hit the block—then a 21st Century auction, headlined by Kusama’s acrylic painting “Pumpkin (C)” (1991) (est. $1,774,822 – $2,417,874). While the 20th Century auction has historic names like the Old Master J.M.W. Turner and self-taught Filipino-American Pacita Abad, almost all of its 79 lots are by dead artists.

“Hung Down” by Loie Hollowell (Phillips)

By comparison, all but one of the 65 lots in their 21st Century sale were made by artists who are still evolving. That includes established legends like Alex Katz and George Condo (of Kanye West album cover fame) and ascendant hotshots like landscape painter Shara Hughes (who sold out her New York solo show this month) and sensual Danish painter Eva Helene Pade, the top outperformer from Sotheby’s Modern & Contemporary Day Auction in Hong Kong last fall.

Sotheby’s, meanwhile, is already getting warm by hosting a brooding, sex-positive group show titled “EROS/THANATANOS.” Guests must be 18 and older to see the spectacle, which they’re calling a gesamkunstwerk—or total artwork. The show pairs a custom playlist with haunting paintings like Jean-Michel Basquiat’s “Thin in the old” (1986) and evocative sculptures like a warped figure by Zeng Fanzhi, dubbed “one of China’s most acclaimed—and expensive—living artists.” All of the art is on sale, which means you could nab Jeff Koons’s “Dirty – Jeff on Top” (1991)—a life-sized sculpture of the artist having sex with his first wife—to spice up your living room.

“Dirty” by Jeff Koons (Sotheby’s)

On Sunday, Sotheby’s will host a Modern & Contemporary Evening Auction, led by iconic Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara’s “Can’t Wait ‘til the Night Comes” (2012) (est. $8,359,671 to $10,931,878.) Fun fact, there’s an entirely different painting under this work, proof that artists change their mind. And, worth noting, this piece sold for more than its current high estimate with Christie’s in 2019—the same year that Christie’s initiated their habitual fall Hong Kong auctions.

On Monday, Zao Wou-Ki’s “Paysage vert” (1950) could reign supreme in Sotheby’s Modern & Contemporary Day Auction, with an estimate of $643,051 to $1,028,882. Down the ballot, rising names to look out for at this sale include dreamy Chinese “half-stractionist” Li Hei Dei (who set her auction record of $179,506 with Sotheby’s in Hong Kong this March) and American artist Jonathan Lyndon Chase (who had a lovely pop-up show at Acne Studios in New York this May.)

“Can’t Wait ‘til the Night Comes” by Yoshitomo Nara (Sotheby’s)

Phillips is celebrating their 10-year anniversary in Asia. To celebrate, they’re hosting a stocked evening event on Saturday and a larger daytime one on Sunday. Nara headlines the former, where “Pinky” (2000) is expected to fetch $7,690,000 to $10,260,000 in its auction debut. Two impressive single-owner collections will also appear—a cache of works by Vietnamese painter Mai Trung Thu, and another collection of Zao Wou-Ki paintings, hidden from public view for 75 years. American-Japanese sculptor Ruth Asawa, who has a retrospective opening at New York’s MoMA next month, will make her first Hong Kong auction appearance—alongside rising talents like Chinese abstractionist Yuan Fang and American transcendentalist Loie Hollowell. The houses did their part sourcing hot artworks to sell. Now, let’s see if the bidders will do theirs.

Paige Spiranac continues to keep the glorious pinup calendar alive. The former Maxim cover star and leading golf influencer gave fans a welcome update after a break from social media posts. “Sorry I haven’t been posting much on here so here’s a little recap,” she wrote in a disappearing Instagram Story, according to a recent article in Daily Mail. “I shot my 2026 calendar. Every month has its own theme which is fun! The robe and slippers not included lol.”

The now-expired IG Story showed Spiranac clutching a strawberry shortcake while wearing a floral-patterned robe. On Twitter, she offered a much more intimate look at the robe—and the lacy brown bra beneath—via one of her signature captivating selfies.

While Spiranac generally posts eye-catching photos and short captions on Twitter and Instagram, she’s been using TikTok to address more serious topics. Recently, she injected some positivity into the world, reflecting on the jadedness that’s come with building a career online and how she’s working to reverse the trend by being nicer to others.

“I’ve been doing social media for over 10 years, and part of the job is just to endure hate and just really cruel comments every single day,” she said. “I look at people different. I treat people differently. I say things that maybe I wouldn’t have said years ago because I have to receive so much hate that I’ve just become so conditioned to believe that that is normal.”

She continued,” Or when I’m walking on the street and I pass someone, I don’t look and smile. I put my head down….and I was just thinking back about how we now see the worst in every single person….So I have wanted to be more positive. I’ve wanted to treat other people better. I want to give people the benefit of the doubt.”

Though she paints a gloomy picture, Spiranac believes that a little real interaction will go a long way in combating the general negativity that comes with being perennially online.

“When you’re having the worst day ever and someone comes up to you that you’ve never met before and they give you a compliment and how much that just makes your day…it’s such a small little thing, but it has such a large impact. And it’s so easy to forget that, especially when you’re receiving so much hate in your life, whether it’s online or in person, that it does change you as a human being. So I think if all of us can work together in some way to restore some humanity back…these are small little things that really don’t take that much effort, but I do believe that it could create more of a change.”

Why Art Collectors Are Closely Watching This Week’s David Hockney Auction https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/why-art-collectors-are-closely-watching-this-weeks-david-hockney-auction/ Thu, 18 Sep 2025 08:00:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=271786
A Bigger Fire (Phillips)

If you’ve ever dreamt of owning a piece by the iconic, prolific, and very valuable artist David Hockney, this might be your week. On Thursday evening, Phillips auction house will host its fourth-annual sale of prints by the British painter, a tradition amidst each fall’s Editions sales—which this year features a sale of prints and sculptures by stars like Pablo Picasso and Damien Hirst, plus photos, prints, and more from the collection of Dutch collector Frans Oomen.

“Pool Made with Paper and Blue Ink for Book” (Phillips)

While over half the offerings in this week’s 38-lot Hockney sale are slated to sell for five figures, there are six works that prospective collectors could get for less than $2,000. However, given the ever-growing interest that the 88 year-old Hockney continually enjoys, bidding wars may ensue. According to a press release, the previous three Hockney auctions boasted a 98 percent sell-through rate—and set 65 world records. Nearly a third of buyers in these sales have been 40 and under.

Hockney’s not quite as ubiquitous as his fellow Pop artist Andy Warhol, but he does have a distinctive style you’ve definitely seen before. After graduating from the Royal College of London in 1962, Hockney moved to L.A., where he settled more permanently in the late 1970s, earning fame for his technicolor portraits and scenes of Hollywood Hills backyards. His most famous painting, “Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures)” (1972) sold with Christie’s for $90 million in 2018, unseating a Jeff Koons sculpture as the priciest work by a living artist. (Koons reclaimed the spot in 2019.)

“Kaisarion and All His Beauty” (Phillips)

Every single one of the 78 lots sold in Hockney’s unwitting inaugural Phillips print auction previously sold in 2022. The headlining work, “The Arrival of Spring in Woldgate, East Yorkshire in 2011 (twenty eleven)” sold for $421,500, twice its estimate. Thus, a tradition began. Even in this market, Hockney’s clout keeps growing. Four of the 10 most expensive Post-War works sold last year were his. He also keeps pushing his practice with new technologies—like the controversial camera lucida and iPads—while taking on high profile projects, like his (also controversial) redesign of Piccadilly Circus’s logo in 2020 and his buzzy show at the Fondation Louis Vuitton this summer. As you’ve likely gathered by now, Hockney has a strong personality.

Untitled [577] [Two Robes] (Phillips)

Phillips procured the prints in this week’s auction from private collectors around the world—another testament to Hockney’s reputation. “Part of the excitement in the auction world is that each season brings fresh surprises,” Robert Kennan, Phillips’ Head of Editions, Europe told Maxim over email. “This year’s sale brings together a strong group of iPad works alongside many pieces from Hockney’s Moving Focus series of the late 1980s. Together, they highlight both his groundbreaking digital practice and his iconic explorations of space and perspective.”

“Celia with Green Hat, from Moving Focus” (Phillips)

There’s definitely a wide range of eras and styles included. Hockney created the grayscale “Kaisarion With All His Beauty (S.A.C. 8, M.C.A.T. 8)” (1961)—the earliest work up for grabs this week, and the first lot slated to hit the block—while he finished his studies. This copy is an artist proof from a run of 50 prints. It’s expected to rake in $8,675 to $12,393. Meanwhile, the sale’s top lot, the eighth iteration from a 25-copy run of Hockney’s iPad work Two Robes (2010), could fetch anywhere from $61,965 to $86,750. In the 10 years since Hockney started making these digital drawings, his floral still lifes have become a fan favorite. But, Kennan cited his warm work “A Bigger Fire” (2020) (est. $24,786 – $37,179), from his My Normandy series, amongst the sale’s special gems. “There’s every reason to believe this annual sale will remain a fixture,” he said. Alas, art is unpredictable.

Jeremy Allen White Becomes The Boss In Trailer For ‘Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere’ https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/jeremy-allen-white-becomes-the-boss-in-trailer-for-springsteen-deliver-me-from-nowhere/ Wed, 17 Sep 2025 08:58:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=271718
(YouTube/20th Century Studios)

The latest trailer for Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere sets up a premise that’s familiar to fans of musical biopics. Professionally, Jeremy Allen White’s Bruce Springsteen is on the heels of his most commercially successful album yet, 1980’s The River, but he’s nevertheless caught in a personal and creative transitional period.

As suggested by manager Jon Landau, portrayed by Succession‘s Jeremy Strong, [he’s] afraid of what’s coming, and he feels guilty leaving behind the world he knows.” While label executives are hoping Springsteen rides the wave of success and “hits it out of the park” with the next work, he’s on the cusp of creating 1982’s Nebraska, a sparse American folk record that stands as a dramatic sonic departure from his previous material.

Where White and director Scott Cooper—whose 2009 film Crazy Heart won Jeff Bridges a Best Actor Oscar for the redemptive tale of country singer Hank Thompson—choose to do with this oft-explored premise remains to be seen by all but a few critics, whose mostly positive early reviews have culminated in a 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

(YouTube/20th Century Studios)

Rogerebert.com calls the movie “A soulful and meditative character study of a depressed artist laid bare. IndieWire praises the star: “[Jeremy Allen White] doesn’t look a ton like Springsteen… but his performance is steeped in a truth so natural and unforced that by the end of the film you almost forget that he’s playing someone else.” Variety also gives it up for White: “It requires a star to play a star, and an actor to access the Boss’s more introspective side, and The Bear sensation Jeremy Allen White slips easily into the worn denim and sleeveless T-shirts that were Springsteen’s signature.”

However, a more negative review from the Wall Street Journal opines that “the film does a disservice to the windswept austerity of [Nebraska] with clunky writing and cheesy directorial flourishes.”

Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere also stars Stephen Graham (Adolescence) as Springsteen’s dad Douglas; Paul Walter Hauser (Richard Jewell) as recording engineer Mike Batlan; Odessa Young (The Order) as Springsteen’s love interest Faye; comedian and podcaster Marc Maron (Glow) as producer Chuck Plotkin; Johnny Cannizzaro (Jersey Boys) as E Street Band guitarist Steve Van Zandt; and David Krumholtz (Oppenheimer) as Columbia record executive Al Teller.

Catch it in theaters on October 24, and check out the latest trailer below:

Joe Rogan’s Custom 1985 Porsche 911 Is A Collector’s Classic https://www.maxim.com/rides/joe-rogans-custom-1985-porsche-911-rsr-is-a-collectors-dream-car/ Tue, 16 Sep 2025 10:30:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=271611
(The RSR Project)

Avid listeners of The Joe Rogan Experience are likely already aware of Rogan’s love of Porsche 911s, particularly of the restomodded variety. Among the crown jewels in Rogan’s garage are his SharkWerks Porsche 997 911 GT3 RS, featuring SharkWerks’ enlarged and uptuned 3.9-liter engine, as well as a 1-of-25 Gunther Werks 993 911, which encases a modernized version of the marque’s historic air-cooled flat-six in a carbon fiber body.

The popular podcaster’s latest acquisition moves past modernization of existing 911s and into the realm of fantastical creation thanks to the work of RSR Project. The decade-old outfit specializes in building road-legal tribute versions of the 911 RSR, a pure-bred race car that Porsche conceived solely to compete at the highest levels of GT endurance racing but never drive off-track. As RSR Project puts it, “What we build is what Porsche never released: a car that looks the part, carries the presence, but is made to be driven—and driven hard.”

(The RSR Project)

“Our goal with every build is to honor Porsche’s motorsport heritage while elevating performance to meet modern expectations,” said RSR Project founder Richard Schickman, who personally led the build. “For Joe, we wanted to create something that was not just stunning to look at, but also thrilling and reliable to drive. Every RSR build should feel alive every time you turn the key.”

(The RSR Project)

Every build begins with a complete teardown and meticulous inspection of the engine—Rogan opted for the 3.5-liter flat six—as well as the transmission and supporting components. The bottom end is disassembled, measured, and cleaned before each steel component is magnafluxed—a process by which magnetized particles are used to visually check for structural integrity. The pistons and rods are balanced to within a gram and crank journals polished. New bushings, bearings, seals, and hardware are installed throughout, and the cylinder heads are glass-beaded, resurfaced to within half a thousandth of an inch, and fitted with new guides, seals, and springs after a competition-level valve job. Cylinders are honed, machined flat, and measured for perfect alignment, while the transmission is stripped, magnafluxed, and rebuilt with new synchros, seals, and guides.

(The RSR Project)

Each RSR Project requires a donor body: a galvanized 1984–1989 911 Carrera tub, which is stripped down, fitted with steel flares, and reshaped into the iconic “longhood” design. From there, get a Concours presentation-worthy paintjob, Braid Fuchs wheels wrapped in Michelin TB15 vintage tires, and period-correct RSR touches such as a ducktail spoiler, fiberglass bumpers, and Carrera striping.

(The RSR Project)

Inside, the cabin has been completely stripped and reupholstered, starting with a new Porsche Classic dash that restores the period-correct look and feel. RS-style door panels and proper Perlon carpeting keep weight down. For Rogan, the bucket seats were wrapped in black vinyl and a unique woven leather with nickel grommets reminiscent of 1960-era Ford GT40s. There’s also a classic Momo Prototipo steering wheel, refreshed pedal assembly, and a precision Wevo short shifter that aims to “channel the mechanical purity of the 915 gearbox,” which was originally produced from 1972 to 1986. While RSR Project will equip modern amenities such as infotainment systems per the client’s wishes, Rogan only elected to add an air conditioner, further adding to the car’s driver-forward purity and esotericism.

(The RSR Project)

“Every RSR we create is built to be driven and enjoyed thoroughly,” added Schickman. “Joe’s car was tested extensively, road-proven for over 700 miles, and tuned to deliver the kind of visceral experience that makes these tributes so special.”

(The RSR Project)

While pricing for Rogan’s car wasn’t announced, RSR Project commissions start at $375,000, which includes the price of the donor car. Tap here to learn more.

The Grammy-winning Spanish singer and Maxim Hot 100 beauty strikes poses on her own and with a snake in the latest campaign hyping Calvin Klein undies.

Alongside an albino Burmese python, Rosalia stuns in striking images captured by photographer Carlijn Jacobs that feature the pop star modeling CK boyshorts, bralettes, and Icon Cotton briefs. Rosalia was previously an ambassador for New Balance, and recently covered the September issue of Elle.

The “Motomami” singer now inhabits the same role as her ex-boyfriend, The Bear star Jeremy Allen White, who posed for a similarly striking shoot with the fashion label last year.

Rosalia said it was a natural fit for her to become a Calvin Klein model. “Calvin Klein underwear has been a staple in my wardrobe for years,” Rosalia said in a statement shared by the label. “I love the brand and it’s an honor to be in the campaign.”

It’s Rosalia’s first appearance for Calvin Klein, long renowned for its famous underwear shoots featuring everyone from Brooke Shields to Kate Moss to Bad Bunny. Check out the campaign’s images above.

‘The Smashing Machine’ New Trailer: Watch The Rock Become MMA Pioneer Mark Kerr In Benny Safdie’s Acclaimed Biopic https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/the-smashing-machine-new-trailer-watch-the-rock-become-mma-pioneer-mark-kerr-in-benny-safdies-acclaimed-biopic/ Wed, 10 Sep 2025 09:05:00 +0000 https://www.maxim.com/?p=271059 The latest trailer for The Smashing Machine continues to show typically unseen range from star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who plays troubled two-time UFC heavyweight champ Mark Kerr in the A24 biopic directed by Benny Safdie, one of the two Safdie brothers behind gritty indie hits Uncut Gems and Good Time.

The film focuses on Kerr’s rise as a dominant force in the early days of the UFC and his struggles outside the octagon. It explores his battle with a painkiller addiction and the toll the lifestyle takes on his career and his personal life, including his volatile relationship with his then-girlfriend, Dawn (Emily Blunt). As an ambient mix of Phill Collins’ uplifting ballad “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)” plays, the rift between the two is distilled in a couple of lines of dialogue. “A day without pain is like a day without sunshine,” Johnson’s Kerr says, to which Blunt’s Dawn responds, “This is getting bad, this is getting insane.”

Reviews have already started to arrive following early screenings from critic, culminating in a solid 83 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. BBC declared that “Johnson is probably the only actor alive who could play Kerr convincingly: his colossal, sculpted bulk fills the screen, and…his towering appearance raises the question of why Marvel used CGI for the Hulk in the Avengers films.

(YouTube/A24)

New York magazine similarly praised Johnson: “One couldn’t blame Safdie for trying to avoid conventionality, but sometimes the conventions are there for a good reason. In the end, though, he understands that his greatest weapon here is his star. A weapon, and a gift.” And Deadline wrote, “It’s that rare beast, a biopic that’s light on the bio and resistant to being a pic. It’s a film about a human being, and its effect is strangely haunting, since Dwayne Johnson seems to do everything while doing nothing.”

But not every critic has lavished such praise upon the film. The Contending‘s reviews summary reads, “The Smashing Machine is a definite showcase for Johnson. The character he portrays, Mark Kerr, was a groundbreaking Mixed Martial Arts fighter, but in execution the result feels more like a decent 1980s TV-movie—or an unnecessary reworking of The Wrestler.” Meanwhile, The Times UK opined that the film is an “awards season equivalent of a ‘fugazi’ diamond. It looks like an Oscar contender, it sparkles like an Oscar contender, but on closer inspection it’s entirely plastic and mostly worthless.”

Decide for yourself when The Smashing Machine hits theaters on October 3. Check out the latest trailer above.
