It’s right there in the lyrics of his inescapable hit single “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” after all: As Shaboozey sings, “they know me and Jack Daniel’s got a history.” The song has been positively everywhere since its release just last April, spending 19 non-consecutive weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, and leading to four Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist, for the singer (real name: Collins Obinna Chibueze).

In fitting fashion, its success led Shaboozey to team up with the iconic Tennesse whiskey maker as part of the Jack Daniel’s “Highway No. 7” cross-country music series. Ahead of a show sponsored by Old No. 7 at New York City’s Terminal 5 earlier this month, Shaboozey was grateful to see his dreams and hard work taking shape and paying off, saying Jack Daniel’s is “like my number one fan.”

(Shaboozey at New York City’s Terminal 5/Courtesy of Jack Daniel’s)

For the singer, it’s still all about being authentic as he kicks his “The Great American Roadshow” Tour into high gear. “I’m big on just putting parts of myself in the music,” he told Maxim as he prepared to head to New York City. “It’s just really cool that… with, the mention of Jack Daniel’s, so much support could come from it.”

(Photo by Daniel Prakopcyk/Courtesy of Shaboozey)

The ultra-stylish 30-year-old singer added that working with Jack Daniel’s feels like family, and feels like a more-than-natural fit. “That’s something I’ve kind of done my whole career is… putting some of my favorite things in life into my music,” he added.

(Shaboozey at New York City’s Terminal 5/Courtesy of Jack Daniel’s)

More than 1,000 guests got to see the singer-songwriter debut a new song, “Move On,” and the Grammy-nominated artist naturally brought plenty of Old No. 7 onstage. For a distillery with as much heritage (and modern innovation) as Jack Daniel’s, Shaboozey favors the classics when it comes to whiskey. “I like JD, you know what I mean? Some of my friends call me… the Jack Man,” he said with a laugh.

(Shaboozey at New York City’s Terminal 5/Courtesy of Jack Daniel’s)

Of a hectic past year, Shaboozey described it as “rewarding” and “exhilarating,” and notes that he’s eager for more, describing his mindset as “go, go, go, go” as he works to build off the success of his breakout third album, Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going.

(Photo by Daniel Prakopcyk/Courtesy of Shaboozey)

Musically, the singer lists everyone from Gillian Welch to Johnny Cash as inspirations, along with the gritty outlaw country of Townes Van Zandt, and naturally, the singer is a fan of any music with a focus on “great storytelling,” he says. Those inspirations should give the artist plenty to go off as he plots his next album, and Shaboozey noted his band will bring a mobile recording rig to try out new songs on tour for the first time.

(Photo by Daniel Prakopcyk/Courtesy of Shaboozey)

His perspective goes well beyond whiskey and songwriting, though. The self-described “jeanhead” is also a big fan of Levi’s and even starred in a short film for the brand’s recent Global Icons campaign. “I wear a lot of jeans, a lot of Western shirts, and it’s always about style and how I can feel good up on stage,” he said.

(Photo by Daniel Prakopcyk/Courtesy of Shaboozey)

Shaboozey’s rise in the music scene has taken him to the likes of legendary rock clubs like Washington, D.C.’s 9:30 Club, and helped him dial in his setlist and stage design (Jack Daniel’s whiskey bottles, like any good rock show, are certainly par for the course).

“The set is really awesome. We spent a lot of time dialing it in and trying to make it as great as possible,” Shaboozey added, noting that “it takes a village to get here.” As Shaboozey brings his global smash hit (and plenty more fun) out on the road, check out his setlist here and be sure to bring your dancin’ boots (and an appetite for Jack Daniel’s whiskey).

The Chainsmokers

The Chainsmokers are the latest musical artist to perform a socially-distanced “drive-in concert” during the coronavirus pandemic. The hugely popular EDM duo behind such lovelorn bangers as “Closer” and “Something Just Like This” will headline the “Safe & Sound” concert in New York’s Hamptons on July 25.

In The Know Experiences, a luxury travel and lifestyle events agency, is joining forces with JAJA Tequila and Invisible Noise Productions to transform 100-plus acres of lush greenery into an outdoor concert venue for parked cars in the swanky hamlet of Water Mill, New York.

In addition to a headlining set by The Chainsmokers, Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon–who moonlights as DJ D-Sol–will deejay, and singer/songwriter Matt White also performs. As for what the drive-in concert might actually look like, watch the nifty simulation video below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCNagdxVayo

Ticketed guests can indulge in free-flowing food and drinks from Heineken, JAJA Tequila, BrightFox hydration beverages, burgers by Schweid & Sons, and bagels and bites from The Original Goldberg’s Famous Bagels. Plus, guests can sample luxury CBD products from New York-based botanicals company oHHo.

Profits from the drive-in concert go directly to several local charities, including No Kid Hungry, Children’s Medical Fund of NY and Southampton Fresh Air Home.

Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon, aka DJ D-Sol

Seth Kaplan, co-founder of In The Know Experiences, says Safe & Sound aims to deliver sorely-missed live music safely to concertgoers during the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

“In this time of crisis that has taken a major toll on many families and individuals across the globe, we wanted to bring a new live event concept to life by giving communities a sense of celebration and closeness that they’ve been missing, in a safe and enjoyable way,” Kaplan said, adding that similar events are being planned for other markets across the U.S.

“We came up with the ‘Safe & Sound’ fundraiser to be an intimate platform for artists to connect with fans in unique ways through sounds in a controlled and safe environment. Concertgoers will have the chance to experience a comfortable evening outdoors alongside their cars with live music, games, custom coolers and more, as we adjust to this next wave of live events.”

Tickets for Safe & Sound Hamptons: Chainsmokers are available to purchase right here beginning Friday, July 10 at 10 a.m. EST.

For a full list of drive-in concerts happening around the U.S. due to social distancing, check out Billboard’s round-up here.

Jack Daniel’s ‘Give a Jack’ Concert Series Pairs Killer Cocktails With Great Live Music https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/give-a-jack-concert-series-2019-11/ https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/give-a-jack-concert-series-2019-11/#respond Wed, 20 Nov 2019 13:15:00 +0000 https://staging.maxim.com/uncategorized/give-a-jack-concert-series-2019-11/

Presented by Jack Daniel’s

Jack Daniel’s doesn’t just boast a storied legacy of making iconic Tennessee whiskey–the beloved brand also has deep and longstanding ties to the music industry. Just think of Jack’s Sinatra Select whiskey series, inspired by Ol’ Blue Eyes himself, who famously enjoyed drinking Jack on the rocks with Dean Martin and other high-roller Rat Pack pals. Then there’s Keith Richards’ devoted affection for swilling Jack during the legendarily hedonistic heyday of the Rolling Stones, and Van Halen’s Michael Anthony demonstrating his love for Jack by playing a signature Jack Daniels bass onstage.

Countless classic photos abound of Jimmy Page, Tom Petty, Slash from Guns ‘N Roses, Mick Jagger, Ozzy Osbourne and other fun-loving rockers enjoying a sip (or two) of Jack backstage. And don’t forget late Mötorhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister, the Jack Daniel’s superfan who had such a loyal preference for Jack and Cokes that there was a bootleg Mötorhead tribute version of Single Barrel Select that quickly sold out in 2016.

For as long as anyone can remember, Jack Daniel’s and musicians have blended together better than the ingredients in an expertly-mixed cocktail. Dating all the back to the 1880s, when the Jack Daniel’s Silver Cornet Band played tunes like “Amazing Grace,” “Tennessee Waltz,” and “Dixie” at Jack’s two Lynchburg saloons, political rallies and funerals, Jack and music have gone hand in hand.

Jack Daniel’s historic musical heritage has continued all the way up to the latest and most innovative musical acts of today. So it comes as no surprise that Jack is capitalizing on its legacy with Give A Jack, a unique fall concert series presented in partnership with New York City performing arts collective LAUNCH. The 10-concert series takes place at some of New York City’s best live music venues, and runs through the end of the year.

In many ways, Jack Daniel’s is regarded as music’s first independent label, so it makes perfect sense that the brand partnered with LAUNCH to present an original live music experience that encourages artists and fans to share why music is important to them, all while enjoying a specially curated lineup of dynamic, up-and-coming talent and savoring killer cocktails featured at each event.

On October 29, jazz group The James Poyser Quintet performed the first Give a Jack show at The Cutting Room in New York City. “It’s the circle of life,” said Poyser of the kickoff event. “Show respect to the music, respect for the craft, respect to each other, and love. It’s as simple as that. I don’t give a ‘Jack’ about anything else. Just love.”

Acoustic duo Jennifer Hartswick and Nick Cassarino

Lauded acoustic duo Jennifer Hartswick and Nick Cassarino headlined the second show on November 6 with an intimate set at Lola in the East Village, and there’s still eight more amazing shows yet to come in the Give a Jack concert series, which seeks to bring fans a unique experience that celebrates the power of community by supporting and showcasing great artists.

In the spirit of community, Give A Jack aims to use live concert settings as an opportunity to heighten concertgoers’ sense of self-expression and encourage their voice. Attendees are encouraged to share photos on social media using #giveajack and let Jack Daniel’s know why music is important to you, what you care about in your music community, your favorite new artists, best musical memories, and anything else you’d like to share about the power of music and the impact it has on your world.

By joining this conversation, fans also enter for a chance to win tickets, VIP artist experiences and exclusive Jack Daniel’s prizes. (Click here to enjoy $5 off your first Drizzly order of Jack Daniel’s during the October/November fall season.)

Jack Daniel’s Give a Jack partner LAUNCH aims to present music in a bold new way by returning to its core values and how it benefits humanity and the magical shared experience of musicians connecting with a live audience. LAUNCH celebrates, encourages and supports art for art’s sake.

For tickets, visit www.giveajack.com and don’t forget to follow the concert series on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram

    The Absolute Best Fall Festivals To Check Out in 2019 https://www.maxim.com/food-drink/8-fall-festivals-2019-9/ https://www.maxim.com/food-drink/8-fall-festivals-2019-9/#respond Fri, 13 Sep 2019 12:15:00 +0000 https://staging.maxim.com/uncategorized/8-fall-festivals-2019-9/

Fall festivals replete with pumpkin patches, corn mazes and apple picking have their place — if you’re into that sort of thing. But even better are those fall-themed fests that take it to the next level with decadent seasonal offerings, gatherings from September through November that celebrate autumn in the most over-the-top ways possible. We’ve rounded up the absolute best festivals to hit this fall from a ten-course lobster tasting on Maine’s craggy coast to rare bourbon tastings in the bluegrass state, with some leaf-peeping along the way.

    Bourbon & Beyond

    September 20-22 in Louisville, Kentucky

    Bourbon & Beyond

Louisville’s Bourbon & Beyond festival is a veritable pilgrimage for bourbon aficionados — the biggest names in booze and country music gather for the second-most quintessential Kentucky event of the year, preceded only by the Derby.

At $1,600 per ticket, the Beyond VIP pass is exactly how you should experience the hallowed weekend of Kentucky hedonism. It will put you front-of-stage for headliners like the Foo Fighters and Zac Brown Band; exclusive tastings of some of the bluegrass state’s rarest bourbons and one-on-one time with master distillers; and premium lounges with massage stations. With major brands such as Maker’s Mark, 1792 Bourbon, Four Roses and Jim Bean gracing the festival, this is a weekend to learn, love and drink whiskey.

    Telluride Blues & Brews Festival

    September 13-15 in Telluride, Colorado

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BzO1xKslzsT

Nestled in the dramatic San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado, this former mining-camp-turned-ski-resort town is just as scenic in the fall as the winter. Telluride’s Blues & Brews Festival serves just that — live music (indie, funk, rock, jazz) and craft beers from 56 breweries and over 170 styles of beer and cider, all of which taste hoppier at the high altitude.

The festival takes place in Telluride Town Park, an open field past the colorful Victorian houses of Main Street, surrounded by towering mountain peaks and aspen trees just beginning their change in color. Telluride is inherently exclusive due to its size (eight blocks wide and 12 blocks long), but the most extravagant elements of the boozy weekend are the luxury hotels — the Madeline Hotel & Residences is festival-goers’ favorite place to retreat, a palatial resort with spectacular views of the rugged valley and town below.

    Euphoria

September 19-22 in Greenville, South Carolina

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BnojfJDlYT_

Charleston often earns all of the praise as South Carolina’s gastronomic capital, but after a weekend experiencing the Euphoria festival in Greenville — a multiday food, wine and music experience — you’ll consider this opinion outdated.

Over the past decade, Greenville, located along the Blue Ridge Mountains, has emerged as a Southern force of food to be reckoned with. Euphoria argues this case — Michelin-starred chefs come in droves to this mountain town to perform intimate upcountry cooking demonstrations, with meals at hyped-up Greenville eateries Fork & Plough, Husk and Avenue. It doesn’t hurt that Greenville is home to Michelin’s North America headquarters.

Trans-Pecos Festival of Music + Love

    September 26-29 in Marfa, Texas

    Cecilia Alejandra

Marfa is an almost-mythical mecca for artists and creative types in the vast expanses of the west Texas desert. The secluded location lends to its level of evasive luxury — we’ve all seen the Marfa Prada art installation — that is best experienced during its fall festival, the Trans-Pecos Festival of Music + Love. Though you will be hard-pressed to spot any fall foliage, you will find many bohemian tents, teepees and yurts at El Cosmico, the ultra-cool glamping-style property.

Sonoma’s Scribe Winery sets up a wine lodge for the festival, complete with wine-tasting sessions; CBD and cannabis workshops take place throughout the weekend; El Cosmetico, the hotel’s pop-up spa will offer facials and other indulgent treatments; and the hydration station injects vitamin-pumping IVs into the arms of hungover festival-goers. This is desert luxury.

    Lexus All-Star Chef Classic

October 2-5 in Los Angeles, California

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B2MySrMBcbs

The unparalleled access to a formidable roster of international culinary talent at the Lexus All-Star Chef Classic in Los Angeles is well worth the $425 VIP dinner package price.

This event takes place at L.A. Live, a colossal entertainment space — the coolest part is the Restaurant Stadium, a 300-seat venue that brings guests “kitchen-side” to watch Michelin-starred chefs work their craft and battle it out under the spotlight. The multicourse seated dinners vary in theme, from Korean cuisine to seafood fare; meat-lovers will salivate over Carneval, a tasting with 18 world-renowned chefs from across the globe to champion all things meat — open bar included.

    Finger Lakes Cider Week

September 26 – October 6 in Ithaca, New York

    Allison Usavage

As summer comes to a close, swap out your summer roses for some seasonally appropriate hard ciders — this weeklong Finger Lakes fete is a celebration of all things alcoholic and apple, set against upstate New York’s renowned fall foliage.

Cider Week kicks off with a three-course cider pairing dinner at Ithaca eatery Hazelnut — nosh on harvest-themed plates (mouth-watering roasted chicken with sage brown butter, pork belly lettuce wraps with apple slaw), each paired with refreshing apple ales from local houses. Also on the itinerary: a soil-to-glass orchard tour at Eve’s Cidery, educational talks at Cornell’s research orchards (alcohol included), and generous tastings at over a dozen cideries.

Harvest on the Harbor Festival (HOTH)

    October 17-20 in Portland, Maine

    Harvest on the Harbor Festival

There are few places that do autumn better than Maine. Venerable fall foliage, briny oyster shucking and crisp craft beers — all of this, and more, are available at Portland’s Harvest on the Harbor Festival (abbreviated to HOTH).

Maine’s collection of chefs and farmers gather in Portland’s scenic harbor for four days of epicurean bliss — harvest dinners, gin tastings, boozy brunches and live music. The pièce de résistance is a ten-course lobster lunch that doubles as a competition to crown the “Lobster Chef of the Year.” Guests vote for their favorites, so they fortunately have to try every sample of this New England delicacy.

Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival

September 27-29 in Sonoma County, California

    (Photo: Getty)

Sonoma County is the laid-back alternative to nearby Napa, trading in overhyped vineyards for quietly luxe locales. As the birthplace of California’s wine industry, there is no better time to experience Sonoma than during the Valley of the Moon Vintage Festival from September 27-29, a celebration of the region’s viticultural history and the annual grape bounty.

This wine-soaked weekend features over 40 local vendors showing off Sonoma’s dynamic wine and food offerings, culminating in the Grape Stomp, when festival-goers roll up their pants and get the hands-on harvest experience. It’s a messy tradition that is definitely most fun after copious Pinot Noir consumption.

Dave Grohl was joined by a very special guest for another incredible live performance that’s going viral.

12-year-old Violet Grohl sang a stunning cover of Adele’s “When We Were Young” while her rock star father accompanied on acoustic guitar at a benefit concert for the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland this weekend.

The preteen expertly emulated the British singer-songwriter’s powerhouse voice as she belted out the moody 25 single with ease. Compare it to Adele’s version below:

The Grohl family’s set didn’t end there! Per Rolling Stone

Following the Adele cover, Grohl’s younger daughter Harper came to the stage to play drums and Violet sang backup when their father played Foo Fighters‘ “The Sky Is a Neighborhood.”

The set concluded with Violet on lead vocals and Harper on drums as the Grohls covered Queen’s “We Will Rock You.” Grohl’s daughters previously appeared in the Foo Fighters’ “The Sky Is a Neighborhood” video.

If the Foo Fighter frontman’s kids want to follow in their father’s musical footsteps, they’re clearly on the right track. Watch Harper, Violet and Dave play the bands’ hit single “The Sky Is a Neighborhood” below:

12 Times Rock Bands Brought Fans Onstage to Epically Shred Songs https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/12-times-rock-bands-brought-fans-onstage-2018-5/ https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/12-times-rock-bands-brought-fans-onstage-2018-5/#respond Wed, 09 May 2018 13:00:00 +0000 https://staging.maxim.com/uncategorized/12-times-rock-bands-brought-fans-onstage-2018-5/

Performing for a packed house is every musician’s goal, but jamming onstage with their idols is the kind of wild fantasy most superfans only dream about.

Fortunately, many of the world’s greatest rockers are happy to reciprocate the love they receive from thousands of adoring fans by giving talented audience members the chance to shred riffs, belt out melodies and bang out grooves with the band at live shows.

From metal legends like Ozzy Osbourne and Pantera to current chart-toppers like Foo Fighters and The Killers, here are 12 rock bands that brought fans up to help them slay songs.

    1. 10-Year-Old Guitarist Shreds “Crazy Train” With Ozzy Osbourne

Yuto Miyazawa made headlines when he covered this heavy metal classic on The Ellen DeGeneres Show before he played it perfectly in front of thousands at Ozzfest one year later.

    2. “Kiss Guy” Stuns Dave Grohl Playing “Monkey Wrench” With Foo Fighters

Dave Grohl wisely picked the dude wearing Gene Simmons’ KISS mask to play lead on the Seattle-based rockers’ radio staple. Following the jam, the frontman even said that aspiring guitarist Yayo Sanchez was the best fan the Foo Fighters have ever played with.

    3. Classic Rock Lover Channels Alex Van Halen on “Hot for Teacher” With Steel Panther

The glam rock revivalists in Steel Panther didn’t hesitate to give the Australian fan who challenged their drummer to a duel all kinds of shit as he hopped on stage, but they backed off after he ripped the opening groove to this killer Van Halen track.

    4. Sean Kinney Lets Persistent Fan Play “Would” With Alice in Chains

After displaying a t-shirt inscribed with a plea to play for the entire show, bassist Mike Inez finally said “Get up here, motherfucker” and let the dude fill in for Sean Kinney on one of the grunge legends’ most endearing songs.

    5. College Student Drums on “Under Pressure” With Foo Fighters

OK—we’ve already seen one Foo fighters-and-fan performance. But this cover of Queen’s “Under Pressure” with college sophomore Pierce Edge was too awesome to omit.

    6. Fan Sings Dimebag Darrel’s High Notes With Pantera

Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo clearly influenced young Dusty’s vocal style. The groove metal pioneers were even polite enough to let the guy warm up before the late and great Dimebag Darrel tested his skills by having him match pitches of his shrieking guitar harmonics.

    7. Metallica Bassist’s Son Plucks”Blind” and “Twist” With Korn

He’s not just a fan—this 12-year-old prodigy is the son of Metallica bassist Robert Trujilo. Tye’s undeniable talent earned him a stand-in spot on the nu-metal outfit’s South American tour in Reginald “Fieldy” Arizu’s absence.

    8. Fan Chugs Beer and Slays “Jesus of Suburbia” With Green Day

This dude kicked off his on-stage performance of this lengthy American Idiot single by downing a brew in front of a roaring crowd. It doesn’t get much more punk rock than that.

    9. 13-Year-Old Drummer Plays “Always” Encore With Blink-182

Travis Barker’s machine-gun fills require more than amateur ability to execute, but this young percussionist made it look easy.

    10. Nervous Guitarist Rips Lead Riff on “Unholy Confessions” with Avenged Sevenfold

Based on his Under Armour t-shirt, buzz cut and geeky glasses, you’d never guess that “Steve from Philly” could play a mosh pit-worthy rendition of this Avenged fan favorite.

    11. Street Musician Sings “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” With Steven Tyler

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQNNmvRo8l8

Technically, Steven Tyler sang Aerosmith’s power ballad with Moscow-based busker Alexander Anisimovfor, but it’s still an awesome version of an admittedly cheesy song.

    12. Drummer Saves Groove on “For Reasons Unknown” With The Killers

The first guy who volunteered to play this Sam’s Town single didn’t play two bars before he was kicked off the kit. Luckily, Jose Luis was there to bring the beat back in front of 65,000 fans.

Dave Grohl Invited A Fan Onstage And Was Totally Blown Away By the Guy’s Performance https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/kiss-fan-shreds-with-foo-fighters-2018-4/ https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/kiss-fan-shreds-with-foo-fighters-2018-4/#respond Fri, 20 Apr 2018 17:31:41 +0000 https://staging.maxim.com/uncategorized/kiss-fan-shreds-with-foo-fighters-2018-4/

The Foo Fighters began their latest U.S. tour with a bang when they invited yet another musically talented superfan to jam with them on stage.

Frontman Dave Grohl wisely picked the dude wearing Gene Simmons’ KISS mask to play lead on the Seattle-based rockers’ 1997 hit, “Monkey Wrench.”

“Don’t get too excited yet,” Grohl advised in a longer recording of the performance. “You might shit the bed in your hometown, brother.”

After dubbing the fan “KISS Guy,” the band kicked in the intro. Any doubts about the guest guitarist’s ability vanished immediately as he shredded the entire tune and crushed two blistering solos.

Following the 7-minute jam, Grohl assured the crowd that the moment was 100 percent legit.

“Every time we get someone to come up and jam with us, people are like, ‘That was a setup.’ We’ve never done a setup.”

“Kiss Guy” also revealed his real name to be Yayo Sanchez. The Austin native took to Reddit after the show to confirm that it really was a total surprise.

    ” tml-render-layout=”inlinehttps://www.instagram.com/p/Bhue-hPh0EP

Better yet, Grohl revealed that Sanchez was the best fan the Foo Fighters have ever played with.

“I swear to god, Kiss Guy—he was the fucking best one we’ve ever had come up,” he said. “Goddamn, Kiss guy.”

Watch Foo Fighters and Guns N’ Roses Rock Live Tributes to AC/DC Guitarist Malcolm Young https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/foo-fighters-guns-n-roses-malcolm-young-acdc-tribute-2017-11/ https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/foo-fighters-guns-n-roses-malcolm-young-acdc-tribute-2017-11/#respond Mon, 20 Nov 2017 17:16:38 +0000 https://staging.maxim.com/uncategorized/foo-fighters-guns-n-roses-malcolm-young-acdc-tribute-2017-11/

Over the weekend, the rock music community remembered AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young, who passed away on Saturday. He was 64 years old.

One of the best tributes came from Foo Fighters. To open their set at Mexico’s Corona Capitol Festival, Dave Grohl and company jammed on a seven-minute cover of AC/DC’s “Let There Be Rock.” Watch it above.

On the band’s Facebook page, Grohl stated that AC/DC’s 1980 concert film Let There Be Rock first gave him rock star aspirations.

“It was the first time I lost control to music. The first time I wanted to be in a band. I didn’t want to play my guitar anymore, I wanted to smash it,” Grohl wrote.

“Thank you, Malcolm, for the songs, and the feel, and the cool, and the years of losing control to your rock and roll. I will do just that tonight, for you.”

Guns N’ Roses also took time during their show in Sacramento, California, on Saturday to pay their respects the legendary Australian rocker.

“We’re gonna dedicate this to Malcolm Young, who will be sorely missed,” Axl Rose said as Slash plucked the chords to Alice Cooper’s “Only Women Bleed.”

Rolling Stone reports that GNR also honored Young with covers of Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” and AC/DC’s “Whole Lotta Rosie.”

Countless other rock stars wrote in memoriam posts on social media. Anthrax’s Scott Ian and Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy cited Young as one of the best rhythm guitarists of all time.

RIP to another incredible musician taken too soon.

    Watch Dave Grohl Perform ‘Paradise City’ With Guns N’ Roses Onstage https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/dave-grohl-gnr-paradise-city-2017-11/ https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/dave-grohl-gnr-paradise-city-2017-11/#respond Wed, 15 Nov 2017 19:19:33 +0000 https://staging.maxim.com/uncategorized/dave-grohl-gnr-paradise-city-2017-11/ ” tml-embed-width=”560″ tml-embed-height=”315″ tml-render-layout=”inline

Fans at Guns N’ Roses’ Wednesday concert in Tulsa, Oklahoma got to see two rock superstars for the price of one when GNR brought out Dave Grohl to jam out on “Paradise City.” Watch it above.

    Slash and Dave Grohl.

The Foo Fighters frontman gave Slash a hearty bro hug before the GNR guitarist strums the immediately recognizable opening chords of the Appetite For Destruction classic.

Towards the end of the clip, the two tag team backup vocals beneath Axl Rose’s soaring chorus.

    Dave Grohl and Duff McKagan.

Rolling Stone notes that prior to the performance, Rose gave Grohl major props for lending him the Foo Fighters’ gigantic “throne of rock” when Grohl was injured.

Rose also called Grohl “a lifesaver,” likely a nod to the singer borrowing Grohl’s massive Foo Fighters throne – which Grohl needed to continue touring after breaking his leg in an in-concert accident – when Rose broke his own foot just weeks prior to the Not in This Lifetime tour.

Shows on the ongoing Not in This Lifetime tour are the first concerts to feature the band’s classic lineup—Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan—since 1993.

Check out the rest of their North American dates here:

    November 17, 2017 – Las Vegas, NV @ T-Mobile Arena
    November 21, 2017 – Oakland, CA @ Oracle Arena
November 24, 2017 – Los Angeles, CA @ Staples Center
November 25, 2017 – Los Angeles, CA @ The Forum

Meanwhile, kick back with the original “Paradise City” that played on MTV relentlessly back in the day. It still holds up.

Rapper Joey Bada$$ Confirms He Canceled Shows After Staring Into Solar Eclipse Without Sunglasses https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/joey-badass-cancels-shows-after-staring-at-the-sun-2017-8/ https://www.maxim.com/entertainment/joey-badass-cancels-shows-after-staring-at-the-sun-2017-8/#respond Fri, 25 Aug 2017 15:35:12 +0000 https://staging.maxim.com/uncategorized/joey-badass-cancels-shows-after-staring-at-the-sun-2017-8/

With a name like Joey Bada$$, it was pretty much a given that the Brooklyn rapper wasn’t going to heed the warnings of some two-bid scientists at NASA and the medical community not to stare directly at Monday’s solar eclipse without proper protective eyewear.

“I’ve sungazed before and afterwards saw colors for a whole day,” he tweeted during the rare celestial event.

“This ain’t the first solar eclipse and I’m pretty sure our ancestors ain’t have no fancy eyewear. Also pretty sure they ain’t all go blind.”

Just over 24 hours after boldly stating he was staring at the sun without “fancy eyewear,” Bada$$ tweeted about the not-so-coincidental cancellation of three shows due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

He alluded to vision problems in his next, slightly self-deprecating tweet.

And last night, he basically confirmed that his sun-gazing session resulted in a doctor’s visit and the show cancellations via an Instagram post.

“Doc said I gotta keep these on in the daytime now,” he captioned the photo. “A lil annoying but they’re pretty fire.”

Not gonna lie, he does look pretty badass in those prescription shades, even if they’re the consequence of a totally dumbass move.
